When it is written “Damage Over Time” on an item, it doesn’t give general damage over time like one would think. So no Burning Damage or any other kind of DoT. The stat that appears in the list of stats of a character sheet is instead “Damage With Shadow Damage Over Time” (yes, that’s how it’s written) and the description says it is “Shadow Damage dealt over Time”.
I don’t think this works as intended as the Amethyst gives “Damage over Time” and it would make sens that it applies to any form of DoT but it doesn’t. It is the same “Shadow DoT” stat given by other items such as rings. It just makes no sens that “Shadow” would be the only type of damage that gets a gem for it and it isn’t even described properly anyway as mentioned above…
It does apply to all elements it’s just not called “damage over time” for all of them.
There are poison damage, bleed and burn damage stats that will change if you remove/add damage over time gear/gems.
No it doesn’t and I know there are different names for different types of damages. I even referenced to Burning damage (which is one among other elements).
I have gloves that give me “Fire Damage Over Time” and it is listed as “Damage with Burning” in the character stats sheet. When I equip and remove the gloves I can see the burning damage change on my spells’ tooltips. It directly affects the burning damage. Same for “Fire Damage” which is listed as “Damage with Fire” is the stats sheet and “Cold Damage” on gear which is listed as “Damage with Cold” in the stats sheet.
Equiping and removing any of those items directly changes the damage numbers in my skills’ tooltips. The one stat called specifically and simply “Damage Over Time” on stats and on the amethyst IS NOT what it implies. Try equiping and removing a weapon with an amethyst and look at your stats. You’ll see it only changes the stat “Damage With Shadow Damage Over Time” in the stats sheet and it doesn’t increase the damage of any other type in the spells’ tooltips.
I am 100% positive this is either not intended or VERY poorly represented.
I can confirm the stat “Damage Over Time” from Amethyst does not affect burning damage. Socket, unsocket, then no change when it should go up 14%. Not just a visual bug, tested it with spells in combat.
One note: I’m on the PC version, so this isn’t just a console issue.
