The following User Interface and User Experience change in version 2.2.0 is both inconsistent and (in some cases) not very helpful:
- Shadow Damage over time has been renamed to Corruption Damage.
- Cold Damage Over Time has been renamed to Frostbite Damage.
- Lightning Damage Over Time has been renamed to Sparking Damage.
Some inconsistencies can be found in the list of filters for the skill tree and the paragon boards, where Corruption Damage is still named Shadow Damage Over Time, at least for Necromancers. Other inconsistencies, even in combination with existing damage over time effects, can be found in the descriptions for resistances and other player attributes, e.g. the following:
- “Fire Resistance: Reduces incoming Fire damage by X%. This applies to both direct Fire damage and Burning damage over time”
Isn’t Burning Damage already Fire Damage Over Time? Is “Burning damage over time” then Fire Damage over Time²? - “Lightning Resistance: Reduces incoming Lightning damage by X%.”
So Lightning Resistance doesn’t reduce Sparking Damage aka Lightning Damage Over Time? - “Cold Resistance: Reduces incoming Cold damage by X%.”
So Cold Resistance doesn’t reduce Frostbite Damage aka Cold Damage Over Time? - “Poison Resistance: Reduces incoming Poison damage by X%. This applies to both direct Poison damage and Poisoning damage over time”
Isn’t Poisoning Damage already Poison Damage Over Time? Is “Poisoning damage over time” then Poison Damage over Time²? Or is Poisoning Damage something else, as the description for the Damage with Poisoning attribute mentions that it “[…] increases your Poisoning damage. This includes Poison damage over time […]”, which indicates that “Poison damage over time” is only a subset of “Poisoning damage” - “Shadow Resistance: Reduces incoming Shadow damage by X%. This applies to both direct Shadow damage and Corrupting damage”
Isn’t Shadow Damage Over Time now named Corruption Damage? So what’s “Corrupting damage”?
And the list goes on, really indicating a lack of quality standards for such things, which definitely wouldn’t be the first time though…
Regarding helpfulness, the renaming makes it really hard to search the codex for aspects modifying any of those damage over time effects, as searching for “over time” doesn’t return results for Corruption Damage, Frostbite Damage, Sparking Damage, etc.
