From the patch notes: overpower attacks now deal UP TO x50%, critical strikes now ALWAYS deal x50%, and dealing damage to vulnerable enemies now ALWAYS deals x20% increased damages. Then the paragon glyphs and affixes for these abilities were all increased. Finally, in the developer notes it says “Additional sources of bonus Critical Strike Damage, Vulnerable Damage, or Overpower Damage will be additive to your other damage bonuses.”
I have a few questions for this:
Can we please get a damage calculation for this to actually show what will be happening?
If crit and vuln ALWAYS do x50% and x20% respectively, does this still happen if we don’t stack any crit damage or vuln on gear?
Where does the additional sources of these damages go to? Aspect of the rampaging werebeast got a cap of 200%; so if none of the 200% is needed for the crit to do x50%, then what happens to the 200% bonus? If 50% is needed, then were does the extra 150% go to?
Do these values only apply to combination hits? In the live stream you showed +150% crit became x50%, and +200% vulnerable became x20%, and together they were x80%. If I only did crit damage, and not vulnerable, then would I get the full value from the crit hit, and not be nerfed by making the enemy vulnerable?
Blizzard has been preaching more transparency for several months now, but this does not seem transparent at all.
Lets say you deal 100 base dmg, and got 250% crit dmg, and 220% vuln dmg (so 200 more than the base for both, for a simpler example), as well as 200% burn dmg, and your attack crits on a vulnerable, burning target.
I assume it will be:
100 dmg*(1.5x1.2)x(1+2+2+2) = 1,260 dmg
If it is not vulnerable, then 750 dmg (losing the x1.2 and the +2)
Yes that is their base. Also the case today.
Additive dmg.
It very much sounded like it applies generally, not only when these effects happen at the same time.
If the player gets the standard x20% bonus damage that Vulnerable Damage provides, and they have an additional +18.0% from gear and no other bonus Vulnerable damage, the calculation to find their total bonus Vulnerable damage would be the following:
TLDR: All increased Vulnerable and Crit damage holds same value as any other additive source of damage now after patch. If you do fire damage, increased crit damage will only make you do more additive damage (same as increased fire damage for example), so it holds much less value than it did before, where it was a stand alone damage multiplier, meaning its own bucket/ source to be multiplied with other sources of multipliers.
Someone has to say it because it’s wild in this 'hood with people trying to figure out how several ill-explained multiplicative effects interact with each other instead of just saying yeah sod this Blizzard goofed up
It was never broken. This is how ARPGs have always worked, its just that for some reason many people were ignoramuses about how different sources of increased damage is calculated. There will still be several sources of multiplicative increased damage with new ones from Paragon tree and some Unique items. Also, you still get the base multiplicative Crit and Vulnerable damage .
whatever dude, thats what i heard one of them say, fixing there math.
I interpreted this as having a 200% multiplier when it does not say it should do that for example. Things of that nature, not sure why you are cherry picking me on that tbh.
Im even more confused on how crit damage and vuln work now. So you have some amount that is mulitplicative and additional beyond that is additive?? Im not liking how they made this even more hard to figure out. Why cant it just all be additive and then adjust numbers to where you want so that bonus 50% crit multiplicative becomes 250% additive or whatever they want to adjust it to. Numbers dont matter you get idea.
The vulnerable bucket is now a fixed 1.2x multiplier. All the “+vulnerable damage” bonuses that used to go into the vulnerable bucket are now dumped into the general bucket (damage vs. distant, etc.). Ditto for crits.
damage = (damage base) * (1+ [the sum of] A) * [the product of](1+ X) * 1.2 {if vulnerable} * 1.5 {if you crit}
where:
A = additive bonuses. so any +% like before, but now also includes any crit damage, vulnerable, and overpower
X = multiplicative bonuses
Edit:
Therefore every offensive affix is now additive.
If you crit then damage is multiplied by 1.5, and whatever crit damage you have from gear is included in the additive damage.
Same thing for overpower.
If you hit a vulnerable enemy then damage is multiplied by 1.2, and whatever vulnerable you have from gear is included in the additive damage
All increased crit damage and vulnerable damage is now additive. This means the stats on gear is no longer stand alone damage multipliers, but are instead increased damage added together with all other increased damage. For example, if you do fire damage, increased fire damage and crit damage holds the same 1:1 value when you do critical damage.
The base critical damage will still give a stand alone multiplicative x1.5 for your damage.
