How do you guys want Blizz to approach the world design for D5?
Open world? Or acts?

I think open world can work if done correctly. I think one of the biggest drawbacks to the open world in D4 is the fact thereâs no feeling of progression from it.
Take any other game with open worlds for example. Theyâre usually divided into parts, where you start out in the newbie zone, killing rats, or rabbits, or whatever, and you progress into the next area which gets tougher and tougher.
In D4 it doesnât matter where you go, itâs all the same. I could go to Kyovashad or Nahantu and the only difference would be the types of mobs I fight, I donât feel stronger or weaker in either area. So now it comes down to, well where is the Helltide, where is the seasonal event, world boss, etc.
Itâs no different than teleporting to a NMD or a Pit, or Infernal Hordes, etc. Itâs an open world in name only, but it completely defeats the purpose of having one to begin with when most people just use it for essentially instanced content.
It used to be that way. Certain zones were set at certain level ranges. Should have kept that.
Diablo is my most played franchise like ever but I wouldnât mind if D5 tried something different, like open world 3rd / 1st person open world story driven RPG with potential mod support.
Avowed didnât become the skyrim it was kinda promised so that spot is still open.
I say yes. Even if i play solo its nice to see people on the map or events from time to time. Im dedicated user of hello/greetings emote. â look it has the advanced action feature included " (( )) "
You seem to think there will be a d5âŚ. Diablo is a live service now and after the disaster that is overwatch 2 I canât see blizzard rushing to make another Diablo for many many years if at all
WaitâŚyou think they learned ANYTHING from OW2?
no arguing with ya there
The biggest drawback is that players are limited per shard/instance so it almost always feels empty.
Couple that with poorly thought and implemented social features (chat, party finder, trade, clans, etc.), and you get a very weak social game - which is one of the biggest draws of open-world online gaming.
Open, if they can solve the 12 person per shard thing.
JeezâŚ

There is alrdy D5 on paper, maybe in develepement alrdy and there will be another iteration of Diablo for sure.
Will they show it on road map of Diablo4 coming next month ? Nut sure, prolly not, but that doesnt make any difference.
I accept your biggest drawback of the open world and for all intents and purposes integrate it alongside my own reasons.
The world in D4 IS so beautiful. Sadly D4 never have me q good reason to Explorer IT or to Spende time with IT.
Canât wait for D3 3.0
id love to see world of blizz, demon hunters and ghost snipers taking out diablo as a zergling or one of those lost viking guys
So true!
In addition, this also affects late-game exp, as itâs completely limited to a single activity. It would be nice to have an area of the map that provides the same result, but with the added benefit of enjoying the environmental beauty
I donât like how immersion-breaking it is. Sanctuary is not a normal planet and doesnât need to be bound by realistic environments or size standards, but even so the D4 overworld is far too small for what it is supposed to encompass. It gets even worse when you realize how many people live in it and how next-to-none infrastructure there is for them (like farms.)
BUT there are also like a billion cannibals - there are not enough people for most of them to have ever even had a bite!
This is just scratching the surface. But on the other hand, I donât want a bigger open world since what is there gets boring super quickly.
I would much prefer a traditional act structure or even âopen zone.â D2 and D3 you can see the edges of what lies beyond the playable boundary so there was no problem imagining the world extends off into other territories and towns, camps, etc.
I dunno if they actually learned anything but rivals forced them to make changes, they are even talking pve content again lmao
I kinda agree with ya here, the whole open world thing was meant to feel alive, d4 sure doesnât feel that way just compare it to a game 10 years old now like witcher3 and the difference is massive.
Well, there will be. Soooo, thereâs that.
