When the base game is trash purposely to get people to do the barrowed power mini games…
No different than there patent on the algo to pit undergeared against whales in diablo immortal to get them to spend. here they want to sell battle passes… if the base game was good why play a season server.
Yes… there is no life in the game. It lacks creativity and a lot, d2 was designed over 20 years ago and they didn’t have the engines and hardware to implement everything they want. This team has everything they need at hand but it’s easier to put star powers, moon powers, elemental powers, infernal powers… All that’s left is the expansion for major improvements.
They need motivated programmers to execute their ideas, otherwise the options to get creative are limited. It’s clear that Blizzard doesn’t have enough talent in the coding department.
My best guess is that they are recycling existing systems while the more experienced programmers are working on the expansion.
I played a short way into the second town & gave up. Don’t remember why, because it started off really good, but I quickly got to a point where it wasn’t fun any more. IMO it’s no better than D4.
I would have to agree with the OP. Doing the samething over and over and over is not fun. The rewards are are a joke if you don’t group. Dungeons for the most part are copy and paste, no real thought is put into them. Getting upgraded armour is almost impossible if you don’t group. Getting upgraded gems is very hard. Don’t get me wrong I don’t want it easy but I don’t want to play the whole season and not get any upgrades.
I don’t see the Leads putting very much into the game other than making Power Gamers happy!
The graphics are technically great, very detailed and good-looking, but the art design is still boring as all heck. Everything is just brown, white, or red terrain. Some of the dungeons are blue. Even the hell segment is uninspired. The dream part of VOH was vaguely neat but everything else was so samey. Where’s something like the arcane sanctuary? The descent into Arreat? The High Heavens? Don’t even get me started on the monsters.
Once I got over how good the graphics looked, I realized how little they were used in an interesting way. There’s actually a few really well-put together sections in the overworld, like the graveyard south of Kyovashad, but the zoom zoom nature and the constant respawn doesn’t encourage the player to actually stop and look at a anything.
The meat dungeons were the only thing that really made me stop and say wow.
I like borrowed powers. They make the classes feels different than usual.
Main problem I see in their roadmap is ZERO permanent new end games… 2 years and we had only the pit and infernal hordes
I like they will rework NMD and Infernal Hordes.
They should update the strongholds, cellars and Legion events as well
They could bring back AoZ, Malphas (and his son)
They could bring back the vaults and Trials with a more consistent design.
All those suggestions are end games already developed that requires some adaptations, much easier that develop something else from the scratch.
The entire world also requires more population and events… A huge world with lack of purpose.
I’m wondering when d3/d4 players will realize the simple truth, there may be 150 different endgame options, but if your game is full of trash at its core, it won’t help it.
Probably when this happens, then something will really change in this game, or at least the approach to its development. After all, if you can sell fast food for the price of dinner at an expensive restaurant and it will be bought, why would you cook anything else?
Loot reborn was revamping gear and loot. Infernal hordes season added the game mode. The Realmwalker was not well received. It could have been if they improved upon it but they did not.
So we go back to powers. Coming up with new game modes to base a season around probably takes some time. Powers are easy. You just think of some random thing and create powers for it.
We are most likely going to see more powers seasons than not. They need to save expansions for new features.
Season 15. Balance reborn. Would be nice and received well by all. Balance your game.
So there’s a cohort that don’t want borrowed powers among the season update features.
Talk to us (who aren’t phased about it) on the ideas you’ve seen implemented in other seasonal platforms or the people’s ideas that you like.
Or is it just the season concept itself you don’t want and just after a base game with the depth to not need seasons?
How would we not be heading toward mmo territory with that? Doesn’t really bother me one way or the other if that happened, as long as they don’t force grouping.
Let’s understand what the end vision looks like that people in this cohort would feel satisfied with.
