A new expansion each year to get us to spend more money on content that should be part of the base game. No Diablo in a game named Diablo (probably not until the 4th expansion or later). All the while farming in a game that is basically built to farm you out of more money. Not nearly as bad as Diablo Immortal but D4 is a fragmented game which will never reach a state worthy of calling “complete”. Well, if the game is “complete” and has everything we want, then there is no reason for us to spend more money. This is modern gaming folks. Getting farmed by AAA companies chasing a game that never reaches completion. No matter how many expansions, D4 will never be a “complete” game in the same way WoW is never complete. I’m done getting farmed by Blizzard and AAA companies trying to manipulate me to spend more for fragmented games. Good luck to everyone else who buys into this gaming model. Perhaps only a few of us actually remember what a good complete game is anymore.
As much as i wanted to agree to some points, i also have to say, that we only had one expansion so far.
So your whole beginning is more or less nonsense.
You have some good points. As someone who preordered VOH because it “had to be great”. Well, I won’t make that mistake a second time. Could the 2nd expansion be amazing? Maybe, but I’ll wait until the reviews start coming in. Damn sure won’t be preordering anything.
You are mixing up the story of a game with game mechanics.
First of all Diablo is not even the only villain in this universe. People need to stop with this, seriously. If every Diablo game had only diablo as the main villain it would hold no purpose. It was about time we drifted. Lilith was an exceptional persona to hold that mantle and i am personally way more invested in her story and how she will come back(maybe assist us) instead of a random red goblin that wants to end it all.
Also on the story, the fact that the game is expanding means you will get to see more stories with the world evolving along. This can be both a good and a bad thing. So far blizzards delivery has been on the bad side. Seasonal questlines have 0 cutscenes, 0 depth and are done in an hour while not moving any story forward. Its boring and holds zero value other than leading you to a board with gifts.
As for the mechanics of the game. An ARPG can be a full fledged out experience between expansions. Every expansion can introduce new things, update/alter existing ones. But the core gameplay loop should hold its value on its own. Again, here blizzard has failed. There are terrible class design issues from release that are plaguing the updated fast gameplay that is todays D4. Systems changing again and again to cater to casuals as much as possible. No endgame goals and progressions. Endgame is starting from level1 basically and is fully engaged upon on T1. Everything that could be chase goals is locked behind a store. So you are left with no achievements/cosmetics that are worthy of your time and no true endgame to engage with. Its just login, buy season, level up pass, do some of the same thing, buy a skin, logout.
if 10% of the playerbase are buying seasons pass and at least 1 skin per season just to play 30 hours then they basically made more money than they would if they sold a full new AAA release due to the cost differntial to the same crowed And most likely they will buy more than one and way more people are buying the pass.
Overall its not the fragmented story that breaks the game or the lack of diablo. Thats what keeps the game alive and interesting actually. Its the lack of will to create a good product that will survive a full year for both casuals and hardcores because its making money as is, meaning with the least possible investment.
Yeah, thats exactly what i did. I waited to see how it was because I didnt feel like I was missing out by not buying VoH at launch. Without a competitive gameplay loop, I just wait for reviews now before making a purchase. No VoH or any other expansion in my future.
What a disappointment. I was expecting another “sorcerer is too weak I’m Leaving” rant post…
…and I find…this!
1 exapansion yes, but 7 seasons. If blizzard hasn’t figured out how to make a gameplay loop i find worth playing by this point, for me, its time to move on. Feel free to disagree, but based on my experience, a game’s foundations at this point are beyond changing especially as more build ons like runes are in the game, it makes it too difficult to move away from the foundations that are not working in my opinion (for me itemization and rewarding endgame play loop foundations just aren’t there). Again. just my opinion. For people who feel this game is everything they want it to be, I’m happy for you. However, I’m willing to bet many people agree with me and are at the tipping point of leaving Blizzard and other AAA gaming companies that have adopted the never ending exapansion models when the foundations are simply not there.
No game is ever complete.
WoW was never complete and is constantly getting updates.
Same for PoE1. Same will happen to PoE2, its a never ending process.
People with OCD want perfection, everything on the right place, the right numbers.
If you need a game to commit your whole life into it, i think the game is not problem here.
We are both entitled to our own opinions about what makes a game fragmented. I agree with many of your points. Lilith is a great villian and boss fight but nothing since launch has really brought meaning to the game. The bigger point behind the lack of “Diablo” in a franchise based on a Diablo character combined with the never ending expansions (as long as the game makes money) means we are waiting for a story to develop over a series of undetermined expansions. If the game kept me hooked with the gameplay loop, it wouldn’t matter as much. Without a gameplay loop or a story I look forward to, I no longer see the point investing my time and money in this franchise. For me, D4 had promise at launch despite the flaws, but the latest expansion makes me feel like I’m watching Gladiator 2, hoping it will redeem itself by the ending. Feel free to disagree as we are entitled to our own opinions.
Mario 64 is complete.
I get what youre trying to say but bad example.
Pretty judgmental post. Not sure why you feel the need to attack me based on my opinion. Im not perfect never claimed to be perfect. just giving my opinion and enjoy conversation around the topic without attacking the people for their differing opinions.
If you actually read my post fully, you’d know that i agree with no game is complete anymore as the new AAA gaming model. Our definition of complete may not be the same. I view completeness by the gameplay loop that keeps me coming back which evolves with each expansion/patch. In WoW, the complete game i enjoyed ended for me around WOTLK. D4 never reached a state where I felt it was ever complete so I’m simply moving on. Everyone has a point where a game is no longer enjoyable or reached a point that we feel it’s not worth playing anymore. I think POE 1 nailed completeness for me and looks like POE 2 will as well where D4 has not. Again just my opinion, so feel free to disagree, but implying “I’m the problem” for wanting something different than we have is uncalled for. We are all entitled to our own opinions and implying people have OCD (thus judging people who have OCD are less than those who don’t) and labeling people is really pathetic.
Season= beta= path of beta
Same, but remember dont fall for that shiny wing again when the next pre-order is here.
#notetoself
I want to reiterate that this Xpansion comes with 0 additional stash tab and only 2 character slots for $39. So will the next Xpansion !! This need to change right now.
Releasing a half finished game was already a big fail. Rest was just a jurney to the bottom
Excuse ne this IS a braindead clicker Game. Lets Not pretend there is a Story.
ITS Like a Zombie Apokalypse movie in which i have to beliebte mankind IS doomed while at the Same time the Zombies are weaker then toddlers.
The story delivery has been better than i expected. Great voice acting, great cutscenes, great voice acting, great everything.
I am pretty tired of Neyrelle but the overall story is pretty solid, especially for an ARPG.
Denying that is pretty delulu stuff.
The game might end up being a spam fiesta to kill hordes of mobs for loot but there is a story in this universe that is being told and its a pretty good one so far. Expansion dropped the ball a bit but the base game felt pretty good.
Now if you are choosing to ignore everything told and expect a full final fantasy story here i dont know what to tell you.
Got it…
You don’t like the game and you are against capitalism. Maybe you should find a game you do like and leave the people who like Diablo alone? That is what a smart person would do who doesn’t want to wallow in negativity.
If you don’t like a free market culture you could always move to China or North Korea?
I am dying to have an ARPG with a deep and more engaging endgame, but every single one of them is missing the mark.
They are all fun for a couple weeks but once you hit a certain plateau in your progression all of the fun is gone.
Slow drip expansions add more content to the game but offer little in terms of replayability. Seasonal models end up adding minimal interesting mechanics to the games and are too focused on battle pass rewards.
It is what it is I suppose.
The execution of the story was downright stupid.
It takes 20 minutes to enter a village of strangers asking you for help and in return they stun you and want to kill you. You escape the evil villagers just to go to the house of another stranger. Which of course you immediatly trust and take food from him.
Like seriously that was so dumb, like so indredible dumb in execution i couldn’T believe it when i saw it. That was worse then Last jedi storytelling and that is barely possible.
I don’t care what good the voice acting is, or the grafics. The world is a dull place and the story is dumb.
