  • Mime: A class (rather than an item) ensures all skills can be learned from the start.
  • Performance: Just like Fury, it evaporates overtime. Use it with Edgemaster’s Aspect.
  • Mimic: Replay target’s last used skill. Consecutive replays have a 50% less strength. Necessary adjustement to ensure players do not spam full powered Boss skills for free. Target casts skill A. Mimic [1: 100%, 2: 50%. 3: 25%]. Target casts skill A. Mimic [1: 100%…].
  • Manipulate: Among the skills already seen once by the player (cast by the enemy in the range of the player, or disclosed through Appraisal), show the skills of the target. Selecting a skill forces the target to use it. Useful to learn buffs or rare / hidden skills.
  • Echoing Nightmare: 30% x 50% =15% chance to cast Mimic (Mimic → Mimic loop)

  • Memoization: Max 12 skills in the skills bar. Billions of combinations. Free respecialization: Master at duplication, the Mime respecializes for free.
  • Faceless: A Mime has no face. Character creation allows mask customization.
  • Endgame: Class unlocked when the player finishes the game with all classes.

Inspiration

Dungeons and Dragons: Mime Class

Mimes are silent copycats.

Their main power comes from the ability to mimic other creatures. They use their ability’s to gain opponent’s power and use it against them.

Mimes devote all their time to mastering the ability to copy the abilities and talents of others.

This gives them plenty of versatility and a variety on the battlefield.

However In combat mimes do not have very many inherent skills of their own, but by copying the abilities of their opponents they can match any foe.

Mimes are never outclassed as their opponents become their strength in battle.

While in the midst of a battle mimes will try to be as deceptive and elusive as possible until they can copy the strongest combat abilities needed to become the most dominant force on the battlefield.

The mimes true strength is their opponents.

Mimes are a very rare form of the performer.

Unlike many other performers their acts are completely silent.

Using a mimic feature allows you to copy and use certain attributes and ability’s from other creature.

When you use a mimic feature you gain the effect of the copied ability for a set duration.

However you can chose to remember certain mimics you do using memory reserves.

These allow you to store mimicked abilities for later fights. In battles fight with your opponent’s skills and catch your opponents off guard and give them a taste of their own medicine.

When performing mimes traditionally do not talk.

You can not copy abilities you already know.

=> I Disagree with this limitation. Knowing the skill should instead boost the mimic.

you can use your reaction to mimic its appearance as if under the disguise self spell

A disguise spell to surprise enemies, and gain advantage ?
Why not. x20% ?

Starting at 4th level, after using a mimic feature you gain the ability to contain the mimicry in a memory reserve.

When you do this the mimicry now becomes a permanent feature allowing you to use the ability whenever you like

Mimes are constantly changing their fighting styles.

They roam the land for the purpose of entertaining others, or searching for great enemies to gain great powers.

Mimes see their mimicry as an art form and treat it as such.

They treat the battlefield like a stage and when they perform they create a masterpiece.

Mirror Armor
You gain the ability to use your reaction to change your skin into a reflective surface. After being targeted with an attack you can reflects the image of the person attacking, and instead of being hit it hits itself with the attack and the damage is transformed into magic damage

Displacement
You gain the ability to swap places with a target at choice.

=> Like a teleport, can be extremely powerful against bosses that are normally unaccessible, in order to gain high ground.

Silhouette
A shadow begins to follow your movements allowing for your movements to be doubled

=> Spot already taken by the rogue.
Prefer the Echoing Nightmare mechanic.

Dead Ringer
when targeted by a fatal attack you can use your reaction to create a lifeless clone that takes your place and takes the hit for you as you retreat into the shadows becoming invisible as if under the invisibility spell.

Final Fantasy : Mime Class

A warrior who has abandoned his or her own identity, instead mimicking the actions of allies in battle.

Mime job command. Imitate an ally’s actions, limited to the abilities employed by normal units.

If a player unit uses a Potion, the Mime will also on the next turn

Female Mimes wear a fox mask, alluding to Japanese mythology, in which many foxes, known as kitsune, can transform to look like other beings.

Males wear a hat that resembles a parrot (beak facing back), likely alluding to a parrot’s ability to mimic human speech and other sounds.

https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Mime_(Tactics)

Final Fantasy 5 : Mime

Mimic (ものまね, Monomane), also known as Mime and Copycat, is a command ability in several Final Fantasy games. It is the signature ability of the Mime class, allowing a character to copy a previous command, whether it be from themselves or an ally’s, and typically does so without expending MP or, in case of using items, without actually expending the item from the inventory.

Mimic allows the Mime to repeat the previous action with no MP or item consumption, though the commands that have random outcomes remain random.

=> Skills with random outcomes are copied as skills (reroll random)

The mimed action depends on the Mime’s stats, not the character they’re miming.

Final Fantasy 7 : Mime

Mimic is a command that that copies the last action taken in battle and can be used by equipping the Command Materia Mime or Master Command.

The user can mimic his/her own Limit Breaks, and the Materia can be linked with Support Materia for interesting results, such as linking it with multiple Command Counters to counterattack an attack with multiple Limit Breaks.

Mime mimics the results of Tifa’s and Cait Sith’s Limits, so the player won’t need to spin the slots reels again.

=> Skills with random outcomes are copied as outcomes (do NOT reroll random) - Major difference with Final Fantasy 5

Mime works on spells that fail due to lack of MP.

Final Fantasy 10

Copycat is a Special ability that mimics an ally’s previous command for the MP cost of 28.

Copycat takes MP to use, but can be made useful for mimicking actions that would otherwise take more MP to perform

Copied attacks are subject to Copycat user’s weapon abilities, such as Magic Booster and Magic Plus % factors

Final Fantasy 11

Colibri may cast any spell cast upon them within the last 30 seconds.

Final Fantasy 12

By targeting another player, regardless of whether they’re in a party, they can mimic their current role characteristics. For example, mimicking a tank class player significantly raises their defense to match that of a tank and they generate more enmity than usual.

Final Fantasy 7: Manipulate

Manipulate is a Command Materia in Final Fantasy VII equipped to provide the ability Manip.

If successful, it inflicts the Manipulate status, which allows the player to control an enemy.

This is required to obtain many skills for the Enemy Skill Materia, and allows the player to take advantage of an enemy’s abilities. Manip.

https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Manipulate_(Final_Fantasy_VII)

In this video, the player manipulates an enemy to cast its skill “Big Guard” on the party, so this rare skill can be learned.

Pokémon: Mr. Mime’s Copycat

Copycat causes the user to use the last move that was used in the battle (even if the last move was by the user).

If no move has been made, Copycat fails.

If the copied move’s target is not the user, an appropriate target is randomly chosen.

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Copycat_(move)

Pokémon: Mr. Mime’s Mirror

Mirror Move uses the last move targeted at the user by a Pokémon still on the field.

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Mirror_Move_(move)

Pokémon: Mr. Mime’s Encore

Encore temporarily prevents the target from using any move except the last used move.

=> Sort of CC Loop.

  • Manipulate is more precise as the player can choose the skill to be used by the enemy
  • Encore has a built-in lock which will force the target to repeat the action.
  • It could be fun to somehow enhance Manipulate with an Encore lock.
  • It would force the enemy to repeat the action the player wants the enemy to cast, for a limited duration.

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Encore_(move)

Pokémon: Mr. Mime’s Role Play

Role Play replaces the user’s Ability with the target’s Ability.

=> Interesting to temporarily gain a Boss or an Elite’s statistics.

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Role_Play_(move)

Dragon Ball Z: Mimicry

It is first used by Goku when seeing Master Roshi perform a Kamehameha to extinguish Fire Mountain in Dragon Ball.

Goku later uses it at the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament, picking up Master Roshi’s Afterimage and Drunken Boxing techniques, but modifying them to suit his own purposes.

Chiaotzu is also shown to be able to use the Mimicry ability: after witnessing what the Saibaman’s Self Destruction technique did to Yamcha earlier in the battle, Chiaotzu decides to copy it himself and later uses his version of the technique.

Goku says he “stole it from Krillin”

Gotenks Bam Bam technique is to copy another person’s technique.

Goku Black’s ability to use mimicry advances his power and gives him better access to his power, as he himself noted when he copied Goku’s stance and attacks, he became more powerful every time he did so.

Seven-Three possess the ability to copy all of the powers and abilities of another entity for half an hour by touching the back of their neck and utilize them to the same extent as their source of origin.

This allows him to match his opponent blow for blow - giving him an advantage over most foes thanks to his infinite stamina.

He can store up to three entities’ powers at a time.

He is also able to deactivate and swap between them to conserve time.

Additionally, he is able to create a complete back-up of someone’s abilities and raw power.

Moro also has no time limit on the abilities that Seven-Three copied.

https://dragonball.fandom.com/wiki/Mimicry

Game of Throne : Faceless Men

The Faceless Men possess the ability to physically change their faces, shapeshifting so that they appear as an entirely new person.

https://gameofthrones.fandom.com/wiki/Faceless_Men

Record of Ragnarok: Adam’s Divine Reflection

Divine Reflection (かみうつ, Kamiutsushi ): As a man designed in the image of God, Adam was gifted with the ability to perfectly replicate any move and technique he lays his eyes upon, including the ones used by divine beings.

Regardless of its speed or power, Adam can evade any attack whilst simultaneously countering his attacker with their own move.

This ability was so incredibly potent that Adam was even able to copy and utilize Zeus’s time-surpassing punch after only seeing it a single time.

In the anime, Adam can instantly morph his biology in order to replicate attacks properly

However, despite their seemingly unbeatable nature, the Divine Reflection do have their limits; seeing through his opponents attacks puts a certain amount of strain on Adam’s nervous system.

If Adam pushes his eyes to their limits, he will start to overheat and if Adam chooses to continue he runs at the risk of becoming blind (bleeding through his nose, eyes and ears in the process), making him incapable of using Divine Reflection.

The Harlequin, through its traditional patchwork clothing, is the embodiment of the Multiclass !

id love to play one, hard to balance though. harlequin would be a class for experts: alot of player skill involved

Mimic was the first iteration of this mechanic in ff games. later they changed the name to blue mage. Thats essential what you want.
But its a nice and pretty unique theme. So im all in for a class thats a form of blue mage stuff. Dont need to be too complicated tho, a eat/kill=learn mechanic is enough, to learn their skills.

Me too ! :star_struck:

Plus all the icons to create for every monster skill.
Some work is involved on developers side :man_construction_worker: :carpentry_saw: :hammer:

Yes, it is designed for veterans.

The proposal specifies this class should be an endgame class, unlocked when the player has finished the game with all mainstream classes.

This class should be a reward for mastering the game.

Good idea. :space_invader:
Pacman & Kirby approve ! :+1:

While it would be too easy to grant all the skills of a creature after killing it, granting 1 skill of that creature is balanced.

In higher difficulties, the player would have a X% chance to learn 1 skill of the target after it dies.

On the other hand, using an on-kill mechanic means you cannot learn human skills unless you kill humans.

Which will be hard unless you engage into PvP battles.

Server Slam Edit:

Some allies (NPC) have interesting skills.

Like Neyrelle’s Shadow Cascade.

https://i.ibb.co/WnqM8N9/Diablo-IV-2023-05-12-23-06-17.png

Not sure it is possible to kill her to learn this skill.

That’s why “on viewed” seems a broader mechanic than “on kill”.

Unless there is an enemy that also uses this skill.

Nice poster as always. :sunglasses:

it should really be a class for skilled experts, like always at the brink of death, but in skilled hands the highest dps dealer

I support this idea, the lore could be something of an abandoned child surviving in the wilderness by using his skill of copycating his foe’s and passed his skills down generation after generation refining their skills, in the most remote areas of sanctuary. You earn your trust among the tiny tribe, as a lost soul/outcast of society, due to your natural instincts of mimicry, regular humans were annoyed with you and perceived you as either unintelligent or totally arrogant either way you were unwelcome everywhere you went… tbc

I can tell you put a lot of thought into this & I truly do love this idea!
