D4 pin pathing on minimap is not accurate

Pinning on the map is sometimes inaccurate. I’ve had some occasions where it will lead me around the long way instead of a much shorter, direct path.

I’ve even had some times where the path will cross over unpassable terrain or where there was an alcove, it will take me on the complete opposite side of the path before tracing a dotted line over to where the pin is. Most notable when trying to go for Altars.

Sorry to say this but I think won’t be addressed. It was raised nearly a year ago in private testing and is still behaving exactly the same. Just think of it as a rough guide that needs verified as you move.

So I get you’re saying it won’t be addressed…but LMAO on your comment that “it’s a rough guide”. Teleport to The Imperial Library in Kehjistan and pin the Crusaders’ Cathedral. That is not my definition of rough, that’s just pure bad pathing.

Beyond that, pathing really is broken in multiple ways. There are specific places that seem to break the pathing, like The Writhing Mire in Hawezar - you can’t pin path there at all. There’s a section in NE Scouring Sands in Kehjistan that breaks pathing as well.

I’ve also had many, many instances where attempting to place a pin while in a town/settlement that is outside of the said town/settlement, that the pin just gets placed in some seeming random place in the town. It’s not until I leave the area and try it again that it then works.

There is definitely some wonky shenanigans going on, and they really should be addressing it.

If you move your pin slightly to the southwest so it is not on top of impassible terrain, I think it will path correctly. Right now, I think your pin is actually inside the mountain.

See these images for example: https://imgur.com/a/2GSmYkA
My pin is actually in the mountain, so it will not path correctly.

They still need to fix it, but once you know why is is happening, you can avoid the problem.

To post screenshots:

  1. Upload your image to a site such as imgur.com.
  2. Paste the link to your image into your post.
  3. Select/highlight the link and click the </> button in the toolbar.
  4. Your link will look like this: https://imgur.com/a/pkec1Ez
This makes it easier for people to copy and paste your link into a browser.

Yeah, off-setting the pin a little bit helps going from the Library to the Dungeon. Interestingly though, going the opposite direction, from the Dungeon to the Library, it seems to always pick the really bad path.

Not that anyone would really be doing that? Either way it still shows that something needs fixed.

I agree. Even if you put the pin in the mountain, it should be able to pick the shortest path to the nearest accessible area.

I’m experiencing issues where often map losses pinning / target selection ability for WP when zooming in and out. Had to refresh to get clicking back. This is fairly frequent I’d say nearly 50% of the time.

Yes, I have that too, and it’s not just pinning, I can’t select waypoints or anything. Have to close the map and re-open to fix it.
