Hey all,
Quick creds:
- D2 - first game I put 2000+ hours into and I helped manage private PvP communities on US West. It is what it is and I loved it.
- D3 - really looked forward to the release and was initially a bit disappointed BUT after much love by Blizz after the release with updates and improvements over the years I ended up with 1000+ hours.
- WoW - Invited to closed beta and played from launch (Undead Mage!) on a PvP server through Burning Crusade. Easily 2000+ hours
- FO4 + DLC - Loved it and played it way too much.
- FO76 - Current regular game I play waiting for D4 with 1500+ hours played on and off since (the disastrous!) launch. Improvements have been made and it’s actually fun these days with regular content updates and such (persistent Bugthesa issues not withstanding).
Now to the heart of my argument/comparison.
FO76 and D4 both have:
- Limited world server instance of X number of users (not sure the exact size of individual server D4 world population but seemed to be 20-40 based on world boss battles)
- D4 skill tree is very similar to FO76 perk cards by creating finite selections for char builds (D4 should offer quick build swaps like FO76 - could be limited to 2-3)
- Shared bonuses across account - D4 Realm Renown, FO76 Perk Coins
- Replayable instanced dungeons per party - FO76 has Daily Ops and Expeditions
- Shared world boss events per server - FO76 has SBQ, Earle, Encryptid and many others
- Single game price but pay for cosmetics - Gotta look good while you slay
WoW is a true MMO but, while there might be some similarities, the D4 “MMO” aspect is much closer to FO76 than WoW as outlined above. And I actually think this is a good thing because if D4 takes a similar development trajectory as FO76 then the game will continue to improve and be quite good as the patches and expansions roll out.
I can’t wait for June!
