I am so happy and blown away by the fact you are finally implementing WASD movement system in Diablo, although I’d have a suggestion… My biggest concern regarding this control method is that directional evade will not be included and directly cannot be controlled with WASD, Which leads to you always have to use the mouse for movement changes aka the moment I want to evade I have to stop using the mouse exclusively for attacking and suddenly using for quick rapid evade. This constant adjustment involving the mouse in the evade system defeats the purpose of the WASD movement and only creates annoyance with the nonstop mouse adjustment. My suggestion is to kindly make a WASD directional evade option, so I can keep using the mouse for targeting attacking only while I can use WASD for movement/evade at the same time. Or at least kindly consider my suggestion… Thank you.
My guess is different here… your character is always facing toward the mouse pointer direction, and your WASD movement happens separately, technically speaking you can/will backpedal and your character will look toward the mouse pointer always, so whenever doing evade will happen toward the mouse pointer. This is not good, we should have at least an option to turn on /off for WASD directional evade.
Thats not how WASD works. Your mouse has nothing do with the direction your character is facing unless you keybind it that way to your mouse. The only thing your mouse is used for is selecting or if you have a gaming mouse with tons of buttons, action moves
PoE 2 doesn’t get any credit for coming out with a feature that has been in video games for decades lol. It isn’t the first top down action game to come out with the idea by a long, long shot.
If anything, maybe they’re copying Hades ~
Anyways, it’s nice to finally move into the future.
IRL, are you only able to ever move and look in the same direction?
It’d be nice if my keyboard had a joystick in the middle of it so the tech limitation of being able to move in only a few directions was resolved, but I’ve tried numerous top down action games with both control schemes and there’s no question which one I want.
Just turn the feature off and don’t use it if you don’t want it.
What I really don’t get out of everything involving this is that they’re literally adding an optional feature players have been asking for that will improve the game for them and there are so many people getting annoyed because…
Literally an OPTIONAL game improving feature is getting added?
my idea is nothing new, basically, I am asking for a typical traditional twin stick mechanic which works decades from now, left analog is for movement and dodging directions aka WASD, right analog is for targeting aka mouse. Super simple natural control scheme… for decades now…
The optional thing I understand. Having a bizarre advantage, potentially, doesn’t sit as right to me. But whatever. Just find some of the spin amusing.
It’s no more of an advantage than any other game where one player doesn’t use the best control scheme they have access to while others do. That’s falling on player skill and their willingness to use the resources available to them.
An analogue is playing an MMO ~ one player sets themselves up with every control they need in easy access where they can access everything they need in a split second, another player chooses to click their skills.
Obviously, one of them is going to do better, but neither one of them has an inherent handicap and the playing field is completely level. One of them has simply chosen not to play as well as they could ^^;
I imagine it will be the same as a controller, just press in the direction you want to evade in, and you will go that way when you press evade; anything else would be weird and illogical.
Without providing any directional input, I would expect it’d just evade in the direction you’re facing, but I would assume if you provide the input to direct it, it’ll respect that.
