Cynical blizzard's blatant cash grab in season 8

So, S8 makes Torment 4 Aspirational content that only 10% of the player base will achieve.

Next we learn that to complete the season journey and get the cool cosmetics and pets etc, you will have to be in Torment 4. Note, also the massive nerfs to boss powers because they made S4 achievable for the player base.

But don’t worry - if you buy the premium battle pass at 2800 platinum you will get the cosmetics unlocked.

Quoting from the blog post:
I know, we also thought the Guise of the Deceiver armor set would look cooler with wings. You can get them and much more when you purchase the Deluxe Battle Pass Bundle for 2,800 Platinum. This bundle includes:

  • Guise of the Deceiver armor set* immediate unlock for each Class
  • Deceiver’s Final Form Wings for each Class
  • Orinocta the Owl pet
  • Access to the Weapons, Beasts, and Armor Reliquaries

** Other Reliquary items must be unlocked using Favor Tokens.*

I’m sorry but this is disgusting - it is nothing more then a blatant cash grab from Blizzard. They are trying to block the majority of the player base off from content them have been able to play before - they are locking completion of the season journey behind that content that they don’t want 90% accessing - then they are saying, get the most expensive version of the battle pass and you will unlock the cool cosmetics.

Disgusting!!

Don’t buy cosmetics in the shop and use at least 10% of your brain while playing D4 - both problems solved, you’re welcome

This game’s been a cynical cash grab since launch.

Was hoping they weren’t going to lock season journey tasks behind T4. The season journey shouldn’t be aspirational. It’s a base part if seasonal play.

Expect there to be a major hit to player count in a few weeks when the casual base hits those tasks.

That’s why I keep warning that the battlepass might not be completed as quickly as in the past.

Great example of where Blizzard’s nonsensical ways of trying to justify things winds up contradictory. They’ve gone back on so many definitive statements, too, I don’t trust anything they say about the intent or permanency of anything in D4.

You can’t say “this is literally what you are supposed to do in a season” and put that in content you’ve already said is “aspirational,” “something we want only 10% of players doing” etc. Even just calling it a “seasonal challenge” instead of “journey” would be far more reasonable. Verbiage is important.

The deluxe battle pass is 2800 platinum. It gives you wings and the owl. Everything else can be obtained for 1000 platinum, just like previous seasons.

Edit- my question was answered, thanks!

With what some are thinking are locked behind T4 tasks. The same T4 Blizzard said “we want only about 10% of the player base to reach”; ergo based on what was said only 10% may reach it through the standard 1000 platinum purchase. Reality is we don’t know what “tasks” are required for the individual chest items.

Tasks are for season journey. The battle pass/reliquary is just slay monsters and complete quests… just like previous seasons. People need to stop manufacturing outrage.

Okay please show me this list of quests validating what level they are required to complete?

I’m not outraged by any of it. I am not playing this this season and didn’t complete S7, I will play eternal… I don’t care about cosmetics and I don’t consider something a reward when I pay to obtain it…

Dude have you ever played an rpg? “Quests” is a self-explanatory term. The season story is made up of quests. The overworld is littered with crappy braindead quests.

Then there’s “slay monsters”. You literally just have to kill anything.

There’s nothing hard about the reliquary.

You win the internet… Such an insightful person you are reading text and knowing who I am.

There’s some legitimate outrage here, but as you indicated the battle pass isn’t the issue. Based on the the blog post, completing the battle pass can be done in T3 or under.

The season journey is the problem as it has separate rewards that are locked behind T4. Which the dev team has stated they want to keep T4 out of reach of the majority of the playerbase.

You get so butthurt when faced with logic.

It is not the same pet the super duper battle pass is optional only if you really need to have it.

Yes locking the earnable pet behind torment 4 is dumb. But when people drop the game they will learn. I personally don’t believe it will be an issue, but I don’t want that ugly cat anyway.

In fact that ugly cat almost makes me want to spend 2800 plat instead. Almost. :hamster:

if blizzard collabs with hermès and puts that logo onto the cosmetics, each piece could be sold for 38,000 platinum.

It is normal status in many games that there are some rewards only for dedicated players.

I still don’t see why it is a problem to reward players for achieving stuff in a video game?

You play a little - get the rewards accordingly, you play a lot - get the rewards accordingly.

It’s just a cosmetic pet which does exactly the same like the free puppy.

Which is why there’s no good reason to lock it behind T4. HOWEVER …

Sorry, but I’ll take that seriously when it gets proved to me. I think their claim of “aspirational” is itself “aspirational.”

Finally, just an IMHO that is strictly that & nothing more …

What kind of 12-year-old Edgy McEdgeface did they get to design this hideous attempt at “cosmetic?” Sorry, Blizz, but if you want me to spend money on your Premium Battlepass, AT LEAST get some freekin’ adults to do the rewards.
