This has been talked about a fair amount by the looks of things, but honestly it seems like the character customization needs to let us put more character into our… characters.
Firstly, the BIG one is Facial Hair options for men, definitely separate selections for eyebrows and actual facial hair. The coolest eyebrows (for all classes, from what I can see) are stuck alongside a massive bushy beard. Should these both be options by themselves? Absolutely. Should they be inseparable? No.
The other is body types, I understand (of course) that it’s a big ask to let us select our body type irrespective of class, given how many armour pieces/animations would need to be resized, but like, wouldn’t it just objectively be cooler? Maybe I want to play a jacked Necromancer, or a slender Druid, why shouldn’t we be able to? Sliders would maybe be overkill, but definitely a more modular system for body types would go a long way in capturing the RPG lovers out there. I guess the argument is that it’s to distinguish classes at a glance, but I don’t really see how that would impact gameplay/balance in the slightest, seeing as this is, for the most part, a PvE game.
The last one is more options! More face types, WAY more hairstyles, hell after seeing the Druid, let us choose body hair as well! Not gonna lie, I was really let down by how difficult it was to make a passable looking Necromancer, when this was the class I was most excited for.
Anyway, just my two cents, I figure the more people talk about it the more likely it is to get taken seriously. Chur.

I can’t find a single person who can say why this game needs to have character customization. We really don’t need to customize a character we don’t see unless we zoom in all the way. However, if you are going to allow us to customize our characters, allow us to really customize them. Necromancer Females look like Males and Males look Feminine. The body types is insulting to have instead of the Male or Female symbol we got in D3. Body types should be reserved to after selecting either Male or Female like you can do in SWTOR.
But really, they need to get rid of character customization and just have the players look like they do in D3.
It’s really funny how many ear and nose rings we can put on our 4 faces. Something’s off here xD

I 100% get where you’re coming from in that it’s not a real factor in terms of gameplay. I’d argue however that it does have an impact on people’s immersion, sense of individuality, and overall attachment to their character. Particularly seeing as it’s a fully online game, as well as us now having fully animated cinematics featuring our character, which is awesome. Personally I feel like if my character looked exactly the same as a hundred other people running around Kyovashad or wherever, the world would feel less alive.
I think the key take away is that the little things are the most important to a cool experience. Unfortunately I doubt they’ll do anything about the character options considering they completely botched the look of the D2R models and provide zero improvement or alternatives to address endless fan requests.
