For this Season, I decided to give Necro a try and having alot of fun playing Blight build. However, one thing that is a little disappointing about this class is the visual/sound effects for the curses.
The sounds effects feel bland and the visual effects are hard to see. It would be great if the developers just used the visual/sound effects from D2 as shown below…

Necro main here. I think the visual clarity from the cursed enemies should improve as well.

Sound in general is a mixed bag in D4. Some of it is excellent, but unfortunately many key abilities have pretty weaksauce SFX as compared to D2.
I’m curious as to why, though. D2 is the gold standard, and I don’t necessarily expect them to be able to hit that, but some of the sound in D4 is extremely good. But it’s especially sad when key signature abilities from D2 have notably inferior sound in D4, it genuinely detracts from the enjoyment of those skills.
The only conclusion I can come up with is that they’re trying not to annoy the player with over the top SFX for abilities that can be spammed very frequently, out of consideration for the overall soundscape (and player’s sanity).

Agreed, they could simply use the sounds from D2 and the signature abilities would be simply better.

I agree with this. I think the visual effect is the most important part. Currently, I can barely tell who I’ve cursed and that only with decrepify due to the slow visual effect.

I just wanted to open a new thread to report the similarity of Decrepify and Slow visuals, haha. I gathered some examples and screenshots for the devs and was surprised to find out that curses have zero visual effects going on. It is just the added Slow aura in the case of Decrepify.
Main problem here is indeed that players have no clear feedback as to whether a curse has worked at all. I developed the habit of casting the curse multiple times on enemies, even on bosses where it makes no sense, because the visual feedback on the ground is so unreliable when other effects come into play. You see nothing.
It is interesting to compare it to Diablo 2, where curses are very noticeable. They are
- displayed on an enemys head instead of the ground, which is arguably better to see (similar examples in D4 are Stun and Daze)
- vibrant in color to make it easier to distinguish between different curses
- backed up by cool debuff sounds
- animated quite strongly
Everything together makes these curses satisfying to use.
The last point is very important as it makes a huge difference. You know immediately that the curse has ended because the characteristic moving has vanished and is hard to confuse with other visuals. The feedback is very well done.
You can see every curse effect from Diablo 2 (old) here:

Diablo 4’s curses lack the feel of debuffing enemies and leave you guessing where some numbers have changed. I don’t think an overabundance of effects is a justifiable reason to make them this bare, as all the other skills are allowed to have their own.
TLDR: Big push on this. @Devs, please improve the visuals and sound of curses.
EDIT: @Community Manager: please move this thread to Necromancer forum
