Cultist Refuge + Butcher

I was running Cultist Refuge and the Butcher was a mob in the dungeon during the first section to kill all enemies in the dungeon. The Butcher was the final enemy and killed me and despawned. The next phase of the dungeon is to slay the overseer and collect the Cultist Key. The Overseer does not spawn if the player is killed by the butcher as the final enemy, and so a hard lock for the dungeon occurs. I tried leaving the dungeon and re-enterting, but the overseer still does not spawn, so the dungeon cannot be completed

I’m glad I did a search before posting as I had a very similar experience.

I enter Cultist Refuge and 2 screen in I see The Butcher around the corner. I circle around and leave him as the last enemy because he was 7 levels above me. I get to him at the end and as expected, I can’t kill him because he’s healing faster than I can DPS, so I run out the dungeon’s entrance to make him despawn.

Well, this particular dungeon spawns a unique after you kill all monsters, and it drops the key you need to open a door. However, when The Butcher despawned it didn’t count as a kill so I that unique didn’t spawn.
I ended up abandoning the run because there was no way to proceed.

Same thing happened to me, but it was the last enemy before the door. I really don’t think that the butcher should be counted as part of the enemy count. As you said, it hard locks the dungeon and makes it impossible to beat.

Same here did dungeon after completing Stronghold and had Butcher just before door. Died and no overseer to kill.
