PoE announced it’s new league and if I didn’t have a family relying on me having a job, I’d just be unemployed for a few months to no-life it.
The key feature is that weapons have semi-random talent trees you can unlock on them- including uniques.
In PoE, uniques are kind of bad in terms of stats and usually crafted rares are where the bulk of your life/resist/defensives layers come from. As a result, you usually only have 1-3 uniques on at a time and most uniques are just too bad to use once you get deeper into the atlas.
This league potentially changes that with the ability to sort of “breed” two uniques of the same item together to merge their talent trees into a new, potentially better talent tree. For example, bitterdream got buffed from 6 +1 skills to 6 +15 skills, making it an easy 9 link. However, 9 links destroy your mana pool in a few casts. What if you could get crucible traits that offer % mana cost reductions on socketed skills? All the sudden bitterdream goes from niche C+ tier unique to potentially a B+ or even A tier league starter with freezing pulse.
What if you get an influenced 6l short bow that has an amazing talent tree?
It’s like krangling but without downsides and with choice nodes instead of pure gamba.
These are the sorts of leagues Diablo 4 should be looking at, not “oh we added more world quests because it’s a league lol.”
It’s an ARPG.
Ranged is almost always easier. More time to react, more safe spots to stand in while DPSing, only have to worry about other ranged abilities for the most part.
good, sucks right now that the only good uniques are rare and expensive, to the point most will never see them.
And their crafting system is so convoluted you need a degree in astrophysics to understand it lol, only crafting i’ve ever managed is when the guide spelled out exactly what to do.
That’s just PoE though. Its for the most hardcore of hardcore players with all the time in the world to invest in playing it. It’s never going to be new player friendly and certainly never going to be casual.
PoE is chris wilson’s personal plaything honestly, i don’t even think he cares if its good for the game or for the pocketbook, look what they did in seasons past where they pissed off EVERYONE
That’s just angry gamer speak. The same thing was said back when the game was put on xbox, which many gamers had to apologize for later. You can’t make 80 page patch notes and think the guy doesn’t care. Are all his decisions the best? Probably not but everyone can say that when they are not in the driver seat. I would be curious how many on here would make the same decisions they spout off on these forums if they were the head of these companies.
I think it’s also that any decision in a game as complex as PoE is going to have a million unintended side effects.
Also, I think that sometimes people need to test things before being outraged.
I remember when spell suppression was first introduced, people said that evasion builds were dead. But then people started tanking sirius diebeams with spell suppression lol.
I’ve mained a Barbarian for 2 Diablo games, about to be a third. Its been a great success for me as a melee player in these ARPGs that are supposedly ranged biased.
GGG just sucks at itemization and balancing. For such a “complex” game, there are a LOT of similarities between every single class and build in the end game.
That’s great for you, man.
Your success doesn’t change the fact that ranged is often mechanically easier to play- especially as boss mechanics increase.
One day people will realize that PoE is one of the worst designed games ever made. It had a promising start, but years of overdesign, bloat and unreasonable monetization have made it a complete farce. And I say that as someone who played quite a bit of it years ago.
And the skill gem system? One of the worst things ever designed. It isn’t as bad as it used to be, but it’s still horrible.
