Anyone else notice an issue with cpu overheating since season 5 went live?
I have a very high end system (i9, GTX 4090, 64GB ram, water cooled etc.) , no issues with temps running anything else and up to the end of S4, all was running smoothly in D4
Once the Season 5 patch went live, every time I run D4 now, the cpu temperature goes nuts, hovering around 90 to 100 degrees… prior to S5, it never got above 80 (and that was only in the occasional spikes)
Zero changes to my system… since the issue stated I have updated drivers etc with no change what so ever. I know the i9’s will run hot, but around 100 will kill it long term, and again this ONLY happens running D4… temps drop back to around 45 within seconds of exiting D4
Thoughts??

Did you update your BIOS yet?

Limit your fps to 60, is it pushing like 350? It’s not needed at all and just extra work for it to perform. I switched to AMD so kinda clueless with that side of the fence now
Set to 60 already (was originally around 120) no change

You need to update your bios 13th and 14th gen i7, and i9s have this issue.
BIOS is the one thing I have not done… going to do that now - will update this topic once done
The game is crashing more often than ever after Season 5.
the thread is about overheating.
Ray tracing is most of the issue. Just scale it back a bit.
i9 with DDR5 and a 4080 Super here, and the Ray Tracing puts a hit on the CPU a bit.
Same, I tested : limit fps 130, low graphics settings => same result.
I think there’s something wrong with the file system loading management in the game.(SSD)
The best thing you can do is go into your bios and set the cpu max temp to 90 degrees. Your chip will downclock itself and you will get 95 % efficiency and not worry. Every new motherboard has this function. You will notice no difference.
This is an example of the many fixes intel has been pushing due to all the issues the latest CPUs have been having:
"1. Updated with microcode 0x125 to ensure eTVB operates within Intel specifications.
"The new BIOS includes Intel microcode 0x129 and adjusts the factory default settings for the non-K processors, enhancing the stability of Intel Core 13th and 14th gen desktop processors.

I would suggest everyone check for a bios update.
Yep intel been drowning i advise everyone to take a step up and try AMD it’s so much better. Imo
can turn off ray traced shadows, that helps a lot. I just got reflections enabled.
no heat issues at all and I play all day
Do yourself a solid and update the bios anyways.
Well, Updated the BIOS - same thing… soon as D4 is launching (not ever at the character screen) the CPU temp shot up to 95 to 100
And of course as soon as I launched BNet, there is a D4 update (just to complicate the troubleshooting)… Temps are still WAY higher than they ever were in season 4 (like anywhere from 15 to 20 degrees higher)… after playing for a bit, the temps fluctuate a little, but still too high., and I seem to be getting a lot of “pausing” when playing -this happened before but maybe once an hour or so, now it’s doing it like every ten minutes or so
Video driver updated, BIOS updated… turned the Ray tracing down (off for shadows as Apache222 suggested) … No real change… next is to try the max temp thing in the bios that Ronzoni suggested… this is frustrating
As far as I can see, the one change is the season 5 update… nothing is doing anything like this except D4 the new season. The game does btw play fine (except for the annoying pauses) just the heat issue worries me… not going to burn up this CPU>>
More to come…
I have the annoying pauses on both of my machines, one Intel and one AMD. Its horribly annoying, it mostly goes away if I turn crossplay off but I can’t play with my friends (who are NOT on a different platform) if its off.
As far as temps, if you have a 13900K or 14900K - thats an enthusiast grade CPU that can pull 400+ watts. Find a tutorial about how to set PL1 and PL2 to a lower wattage. I run my 13900K with e-cores off, p-cores at 5.8ghz locked, VDD_CPU and VDD_IMC at 1.350V locked, and it runs amazingly well. No need for any of that microcode junk that just trying to modify the VID tables to get around their desire for single-core boost to win in benchmarks.
Answer : Change your CPU Thermal Paste since it got beaten badly. Make sure you have proper Airflow in your system, with all the fans in the right direction.
Dude… if you read the post he has a water cooled system xD
I have the same issue with a i7-11700k, D4 S5 pushes temps with spikes to 85-90 somewhat sits stable at 72 but back in season 3 it never went above 65 even with spikes.
Also another game to def stay away from if you value your CPU is Gray Zone Warfare. That game pushed my CPU’s TDP and throttled at 115C. At 45% usage xD
BIOS is updated <3
Mine isn’t overheating but since season 5 released the temps definitely are higher.
12700k.
