CPU advice from you computer gurus

I was thinking of buying a new computer for gaming since my old rig is not up to par for D4 and have a question for all you computer gurus. Which one is better for gaming?

Intel Core i9-13900KF - 32GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 - 1TB HDD + 2TB SSD - Black
or
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X - 32GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 - 2TB SSD - Black

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The 13900KF is a little bit better than the 7950X, imo. Doesn’t look like much else is different.

When in doubt, always go for intel. It’s just the best.

I would go with the 13900KF, got one myself and it’s a beast CPU :beers:

Save money and get i7 instead. Use saved money and get 4090 instead.

Why not the 7800x3d? Way better for gaming and cheaper than thee 7950. 7800x3d is what I have.

Also I would just get 64gb ram ddr5, now that there r games pushing into 32

Because OP wants DLSS3 in Nvidia or maybe he gets another free Diablo 4 license by buying 40xx

Don’t buy an unlocked i9 unless you can absolutely make sure you’ll have sufficient cooling. It can run very hot even when not overclocked. It would be a shame to buy a processor designed for overclocking only to find out it thermal throttles under a full load when overclocked.

With that being said I don’t think I’ve ever seen a prebuilt with an i9 that didn’t have an AIO, but you should still try and make sure the AIO is sufficient for overclocking before you buy.

7800x3d is an AMD CPU, not GPU

so you are going to buy a pre-built (aka not building it yourself)… you might want to list out some of the computer builder sites you are thinking of going with.

I wouldnt go i9 myself (infact when I built my own, i went with the i7) 32gb of ram is plently but are you going ddr4 or ddr5 (the slowest ddr5 is faster than the fastest ddr4 but take different motherboards).

Here is from my newegg/amazon list (last year) - my pieced together gamer pc:
Intel Core i7-12700K - Core i7 12th Gen Alder Lake 12-Core (8P+4E) 3.6 GHz LGA 1700 125W Intel UHD Graphics 770 Desktop

Crucial RAM 32GB Kit (2x16GB) DDR5 4800MHz CL40 Desktop Memory CT2K16G48C40U5

SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen 4 Gaming M.2 Internal Solid State Hard Drive Memory Card, Maximum Speed, Thermal Control, MZ-V8P2T0B

Noctua NH-D15 chromax.Black, Dual-Tower CPU Cooler (140mm, Black)
EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 series FTW3

EVGA 220-G5-0850-X1 Super Nova 850 G5, 80 Plus Gold 850W, Fully Modular, ECO Mode with Fdb Fan, 10 Year Warranty, Compact 150mm Size, Power Supply

MSI Z690 Force WiFi Gaming Motherboard (ATX, 12th Gen Intel Core, LGA 1700 Socket, DDR5, PCIe 4, CFX, M.2 Slots, Wi-Fi 6E)

Fractal Design Torrent RGB Black E-ATX Tempered Glass Window High-Airflow Mid Tower Computer Case

I really love the case it was pretty expensive but i have big hands and the cpu cooler is GIANT sized and fits so nice inside the case. I think i can actually put my boston terrier in the case and still have room! haha

I’m looking into a prebuild one at Best Buy by Cyberpower.
4 years ago, I bought an i7 Cyberpower build PC with 16 meg of ram and a GForce GTX1060 card, and it’s been a great computer. It runs D4, but not at optimal settings. Just thought it was time to upgrade.

smart! My daughter saw my pc and said wow dad, can you make me and my husband one too?! I said… umm… NO… ahaha my next new pc will be pre-built, I’m just getting too old for this stuff

Hahaha, I know the feeling. I rebuilt one oh, about 15 years ago and I had all sort of compatibility issues. I finally got it running but I promised myself I would never try to re-build another one again. Now, I’m too old and behind the times to try again.

I personally will just try to keep learning since it’s cheaper this way.
But if you do prebuild, I just recommend you check everything before ordering. Make sur you getting your money’s worth you know.

use intel, as simple as that (better in single core)

Idk man, the 7800x3d is pretty top tier atm(for gaming)

Thank you all for your replies. You’ve been very helpful. I think I will go for the Intel. I’ve had my eye on this system for a few months now. I will stay with the 32GM Memory since I can always upgrade up to 128GB. And I’ll also keep with the GeForce 4080. The 4090 is another $1000 and I can always change video cards in the future since this system does have room for a bigger card.

All of you have been GREAT!!! Thanks

We going. From gddr6x to gddr7.huge ram speed difference on the GPUs.
I personally plan to spurge big time if they come out good so due keep an eye on them!.

How exciting. Good luck and Enjoy the new rig!
