I installed the update and when I got to Character Creation my game crashed when I alt tabbed out. I got a message saying there was corrupted data, try Scan and Repair. It happened a few more times. The last time, it won’t even let me scan. Every time I try it says “Oops, something broke.” I tried restarting the BNet launcher, my PC, nothing seems to work. I’ve played quite a bit and it has never happened before. Any idea why it’s suddenly happening every 15 minutes or so since the update?
I’m getting the exact same thing, doing a test to see if it’s cross play related
It doesn’t appear to be doing it with crossplay disabled, there’s just a lot less people around.
Frostydog, If you’re not able to run the game and are getting a Corrupted Data message I would recommend a full manual uninstall of the game and reinstallation afterwards.
Make sure to click Advanced Troubleshooting in this article to see all the locations of extra files that should be removed before reinstalling the game.
I forgot to add that to the OP, but yeah I tried clearing the cache and a complete reinstall. The issue immediately came back after I installed it again. This isn’t happening with any other program, and had never happened on D4 before until I installed the S4 patch, so it really feels like something to do with the patch.
Just started again this morning, turned on crossplay and did it again within 15 minutes.
Just as a final update a small patch came through last night that seems to have resolved the issue.
Issue Not fixed after a complete uninstall including battlenet with Revo Uninstaller and a reinstall.
I guess the update helped me. I went from crashing every 5-10 minutes to playing for roughly an hour today. Had a new bug just now of getting stuck at the loading screen, so that’s new. Just another way I can’t play lol
I moved the install off an m.2 drive onto an SSD and has been fine. Will test it more today when more people are on.
what model m.2 were you using?
Samsung 990 pro 2tb
(20 character limit)
Same thing here. Got D4 on Samsung m.2
Game worked fine when I played it on release. Didnt touch it for many months since it was bad. Now i wanted to come back for S4, downloaded the update and got the corrupted data error when I try to login. When I scan and repair I get another error that says “something went wrong restart bnet”. I restarted bnet, I reinstalled bnet (+restart), I used admin on bnet. Nothing works.
Truly amazing.
Its a Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 1TB
You can copy the install folder to another drive and redirect battle.net to it. Might be worth a shot since i havent had a single crash since i did it.
for yours have you tried checking the firmware for the m.2 with Samsung Magician software?
there was a firmware release for drive health related issues… double check firmware with Samsung Magician software.
this may or may not fix any issues you’re experiencing, but this would be a good idea to keep your equipment working properly overall
Yeah thanks for the tip, the firmware on mine when i bought it was already updated.
And just to add, it’s the only game where it’s been an issue.
Just to finalize it’s definately fixed now, been playing for the last few hours fine. Can’t negate the possibility the m.2 is trash even though everything says is fine, even the temps.
Sadly the corrupted game data isn’t resolved for a lot of us, myself included. I’ve had to rescan three times, and did a full reinstall (deleting the Data folder and “updating”, which reinstalls the game assets files completely fresh) twice and randomly upon changing zones that dreaded error message comes up and the game closes itself upon clicking OK/close window.
I can only assume at this point that the game client itself is keeping files open (a.k.a. file locked) and simultaneously trying to modify one or more of them somehow. Ever since the 5/16 update the game seems to corrupt its data at least once every day, sometimes twice. And this game is large enough that I can’t continually reinstall due to data caps. It’s becoming truly obnoxious, and this is on a regular old SATA SSD to boot with no SMART errors.
Thank you. I switched the game from my Samsung m.2 to my normal Samsung SSD. It didnt work on that one either but after I updated it with the Samsung Magician software it finally does.
The firmware update on the m.2 and SSD also failed at the beginning, but after a restart i was able to do it. Then I could just start the game afterwards with no issues.
Havent tried to swap it back to the m.2 yet though.
