I finally had time to test the new tower mode. It’s pure shat for the following reasons:
- If you want people to beta test, you need to offer at least cosmetics or through some bone towards the playerbase.
- The current tower resembles a boring version of pits. I am not playing a super mario to collect some orbs left behind. The layout has to be progressivly generated, so there are no exactly the same 2 tower runs.
- Leaderboard per class tells me who is the highest ranking per class but doesn’t say anything about the build. You need to snapshot the skills on the skillbar at least at the end of the run to give an idea what build was used:

If you copy something, do it right.
4. With D4’s playerbase going into more than a million, 10000 spots per class aren’t enough.
5. The rankings should persist throughout the season otherwise what’s the point? Leaderboards are there for the epeen comparison and to see what is theoretically possible. You need to offer something exclusive for the N1 on the leaderboard to have an incentive. It can even be a lousy red title over the head like “lord of the season” or some other label.
6. Have I told you the challenges in the tower are boring? Mix it up. N swords following you or a ground plastered with explosions everywere ain’t it.
A simple survey would’ve solved most ot the issues with the tower mode. No one is interested in another timed mode in D4. Most people, I am talking about maybe 95% of people would like a leaderboard for reaching paragon level300 first like in D2 or pit leaderboard.

Some companies actually charge people to Beta test for them. It used to be a paying job, then some companies offered it up for free, then they started to call it Early Access and charged people for it.
That being said, this is the Beta, rewards and fine tuning are scheduled to come out at a later date. My guess would be when they finalize SSF. We’ll just have to see what they take away from all the feedback coming in.
I think we can safely say ‘some’ not ‘most’ and definitely not ‘95% of all people’ would like this. You get into dangerous territory when you assume ‘most’ people want what you want.
By 95%, I mean the PC and console player base which actually plays the game, not the forum dwellers with their confused allegiances here.
Would still need actual hard data on this. I highly doubt you polled 95% of them and got them all to unanimously agree with you. This has nothing to do with people on the forums at all, nor your ill-conceived notion that we’re all out to disagree with everyone if they don’t agree with us. Any logical person would look at your number and question it.
I could say 95% of people don’t want Leaderboards period. Now yes I would be in that 95%, as I personally don’t want them in any form, but I wouldn’t expect anyone to believe that 95% is accurate.
THE TOWER IS ONLY FOR PALADINS -it is no use to play it if you are other class…
specially the sorc
Useless Activity
Leaderboards/Tower
Citadel
FISHING ((IMO))
Gauntlet
Next thing we’ll have is Horseback racing….
Which thinking about it, kind’a seems …fun!

Logical thinking tells me, the single most inclusive activity all players participate in and only blizzard can track is leveling. Leveling leaderboards have been a thing for more than 20 years in D2, can’t they just implement the D2 version for fs sake? We’re in the future with powerful PC, fast internet, stronger graphics cards but can’t implement a crappy leaderboard for leveling?
The other activity people care about is pit leaderboards. You have a website for that tracking skills, builds and classes. Why should you keep track of an activity in D4 on a 3rd party website?
No, let’s make another timed mode which is boring, unrewarding and no one asked for!
Agreed, I would also say it’s the most boring metric to track for a LB though. That however is subjective to each player.
Again goes back to the boring metric side of things. The D2 side never tracked the amount of time, just that you hit level 99. Which quite literally anyone could do by just grinding away. That’s not competition, that’s just who can play for 24 hours 7 days a week without taking a break. There’s no skill involved, just time.
Competitive sports are fun to watch for people because of the skill of the players. If all people did was watch them sit on a bench for hours on end, it’d be pretty boring.
Now this I agree with. It was in D3 as a base metric as well. I have no issues with it, and quite frankly I’d have no issue if they went that route. Instead they decided to say they wanted a more level playing field that didn’t require fishing for the right maps, or anything in particular. So their idea was to create new content for LB’s specifically.
Now it’s not what I would’ve done, but they’re experimenting and seeing what sticks. If the feedback is bad enough, maybe they’ll just scrap the idea entirely. It feels like gauntlet all over again, but a little less clunky, which is still pretty bad.
