Constructive Conversation Continued

I’m not going to point out the elephant in the room, but we had some good conversations going in a previous topic that was unrelated to the original topic itself and I just wanted to respond in kind, as I feel we were all being respectful and having a constructive conversation.

I’ll start by saying this is for Soluss, SirBronn, and Wilfire in regards to your replies toward me. I apologize I did not copy Soluss reply to me, but I did save my reply to them so let me start there.

To Soluss in regards to showing me the screenshot,

Counter point, there hasn’t been anything since S2 to add. They’ve been so busy with adding more content that seasons have been left in the dust except for a reputation grind. I hope S7 brings something more meaningful.

However given the track record and if my speculation of them releasing an armory is true (I’ve been wrong about every other speculation I’ve had), it would also mean they put all their eggs in one basket again, and the seasonal gimmick will be non-existent yet again.

I think they need another S3. Where they extend the season out to work on things, take an extra 3 months at this point (works perfectly with PoE 2 coming out), and start to fine tune all the important things players have been asking about. Add in a few bells and whistles, armory, and whatever else, then work on a seasonal gimmick.

So 6 months down the line we’ll have a much better game and something to sink our teeth into. I think players are just tired of this trickle of content, being drip fed to us, when the core changes we need are just slow, non-existent, or being changed dramatically at this point.

(SirBronn and Wilfire I will respond once this thread gets more traction, can’t keep bumping my own thread)

Would you please do something with my high blood pressure? One of those three made the totally bogus statement yesterday that I called you my God. If that is the case I could use your help with my blood pressure. Thank you.

  1. I am definitely not anyones god, not even myself.

  2. I hear potassium enriched fruits can help with blood pressure.

  3. Other than the fact I was referenced I’m more or less a neutral party.

People talk about me all the time on this forum, good and bad, I think it outweighs itself. Yes some people like me but don’t agree with me on everything, and there are even people who don’t like me but can agree with me on certain subjects.

The biggest elephant in the room is that the power disparity between the spiritborn and other classes is practically impossible to address in a season.

If they are honest and say that they are nerfing them by 99%, it’s :poultry_leg: .
If they try to obfuscate the nerf and say that they did some “bug fixes”, people will quickly catch on that they lost 99% of their power and it’s still :poultry_leg:.
If they nerf the spiritborn by 20-30% and they clear T150 in the Pit in 4 minutes instead of 3, it’s :poultry_leg:.
If they buff the other classes, the entire game up until T150 in the Pit is trivialized and it’s :poultry_leg:.

To correctly address the power disparity between classes, they would have to retune the entire game and rebuild all the difficulties and tiers from scratch. But that’s an expansion-level effort, not something you quickly put together for a season.

I agree with all of that. Its their problem though, not the consumer. They should have plenty of team to actually get things done. I mean they have two season teams, two expansion teams, plus live team.

Its pretty inexcusable IMO. Much smaller dev teams have accomplished way more than their trickle content. Its kinda pathetic how long stuff takes them IMO.

They are too worried about implementing long boring grinds to keep people to compensate for their slow development. It was the same at launch… long grind to 100 because all they had was NM dungeons. Then as they added content they relaxed it. Expansion same way… they added all these super long grinds because they expansion content was only like 3 hours long.

I dont mean to sound hate all the time as I do like the game but all this flip flopping, slow development, obvious grind just to grind adding, etc just makes me angry about it. I just want a fun game. I had a damn blast in season 5. Same with season 4 and season 2. I even liked season 1.

Oh good you responded, so you said and I quote:

That’s the thing, the spiritborn has phenomenal design. And Nahantu is great, as is the Dark Citadel and the Undercity.

It’s everything else that’s the problem. They designed themselves into a corner with no good way out and I don’t think the dev team even realizes how much trouble it’s really in.

I think they do, but not to the extent of making any drastic changes that would go against their philosophy for the past year of not making drastic changes midseason. Which I feel leaves a bad taste in the mouths of some players (not all of course).

Instead they’ll wait until S7 for the bigger changes. Which can also seem like a slap in the face to some. How much longer must people wait essentially.

I don’t disagree with you, but I also don’t disagree with the other side either. Both have their own valid points. Sadly all we can do as the player is wait, or move on as the case may be.

You know These Cartoon Scene where Steam comes Out of a Pipe where the screw sits. Then IT gets covered and the next pressureleak Happens. That is D4 development atm.

What they need to do is Stop the gasflow entirely and fix all at once.

Stop the next 2 seasons and only Patch and fix stuff. When you finally manage to get IT tight you start with seasons again

Its what they should have did day 1. Held off on seasons while they fleshed out the game. They wont do it though because battle pass sales. Thats millions of dollars to them.

To SirBronn who said and I quote:

I might not be informed enough, but is there an 8 mile passive tree in PoE2? Or is it only in PoE1? What if the passtive tree is not too diferent in complexity to the current Paragorn boards?

They have been quite clear that they will keep the features that define POE1 in POE1. Even in terms o maximizing a single skill to spam it, where in POE2 the idea is using different skills in synergy.

Something tells me that POE2 will have at least a couple of builds 100% capable of appealing to the ‘simplicity’ itch. Maybe they are not the norm like D4, but if they exist why would you open D4 if you can get the simplicity itch in POE 2 (assuming POE2 is much better as pre-reviews state)?

I’m sorry I should have clarified, my example of the 8 mile long passive tree and godmode was just in reference to PoE 1 and Diablo games respectively. I have also heard they plan to keep the features that defined PoE 1 in PoE 2 as well, but also make it more accessible to other people. What that means is anyone’s guess by now. We’ll know soon enough.

Although going down this rabbit hole, let’s say that PoE 2 essentially does everything D4 does now, with a more simplistic take on things over PoE 1. It’ll have to be a case by case basis of course, and I won’t just outright say I’ll definitely stop playing one game over the other depending on what they release. I also can’t speak for everyone else of course, we’ll just have to wait and see.

What I can say is though, is that even similar games with almost identical mechanics can be well liked by all. The infamous Batman combat comes to mind when implemented into other games. While the aesthetic may be different, the gameplay and combat traversed multiple titles, giving it the same ‘feel’ so to speak, with each title adding its own flare on top.

To add, I don’t think we’ve seen any of the endgame systems or crafting for PoE 2 yet have we?

100% agree, I’ve said it in other threads that they essentially shot themselves in the foot with pulling back on everything people praised S5 for. Yes ‘fun’ is subjective for every player, but other than more difficulty being added (which does not equate to long grinds) and more meaningful endgame content, I don’t think anyone asked for these changes, let alone wanted them, at least not to this extent.

SB bugs and OPness aside, I think if they kept everything status quo (for the most part) from S5 going into S6, it would’ve faired much better. I could be wrong, and obviously we’ll never know, but that’s my opinion.

Season 7 will be “green realm walkers, with portals that lead to a yellow helltide, with a corresponding rep grind”. And an armory. And they will buff druid Rabies for the googolplex time (again after tomorrows patch which…buffs rabies).

I miss my senschal. Suddenly season 3 is beacon of good memories. When did that happen? Hmph.

Not that I’m aware of.

But I only saw the gameplay videos from different classes, which to me are the kind of playstyle I really enjoy for an arpg. A mix of action and strategy and some diversity to it (not spamming the same button). Quite unique bosses (the “not just biggger elites” joke, which is still very true in D4). And tbh with you that’s the main thing to me, as I beleive there are multiple right ways of defining progress / skills / etc. 90% of your time is hitting monsters so they got the main thing out there already.

If the game is just that and has extremelly simple crafting / other parallel progress systems it would already surpass the current state of D4.

I can’t really talk about it because I had to actually sign an NDA and I never played PoE1 but that ginormous constellation like passive tree in PoE1 looks pretty much the same as PoE2. I have only seen others play PoE1 occasionally on a stream though, but it was huge.

There are also other things like you get skills from finding things you put in sockets on your gear. Then another screen you can open you can assign stuff. Its way more complicated than D4 but I can’t compare to PoE1 because I never played it.

I don’t really want to say too much because again, I had to sign an NDA. It’s also pretty complex to explain and I didn’t have all that much time with it as I was in the hospital for most of the time frame they allowed.

Their big pat themselves on the back moment will be that they added sparks back to the faction board. I’m almost certain they will.

The little bit I played of it in closed beta I can say that it was much slower paced without huge mob density. Kinda like the early stages of D4 at launch. It was definitely not hold down a button and delete 10+ mobs at a time every 2 feet. Not sure if its that way in late game or not but its definitely not in early leveling game.
