Constant crashing on rtx 4090

As of today the game started constantly crashing. Anywhere from 30-seconds to 15 minutes in. Activity doesn’t make a difference - it happens walking around, in combat, just looking at menus, etc.

I was able to play all day long yesterday (apart from server issues) with no crashes at all, so a hardware issue seems unlikely.

GPU, CPU, and memory load and temperatures stay low throughout.

All drivers up to date, have rebooted, and run a scan of game files.

Edit: Just happened again. That’s the 10th time today. Report ID:

Try disabling Reflex, DLSS & setting foreground frames to 120. See if this solves your problem (do each one at a time then start stacking them if problem still there)

Disabled reflex - foreground frames were already limited to 120. Lasted about 5 minutes:

Will try DLSS next.

Edit: Nope, that crashed as well (this was with all three settings suggested):

Edit 2: As a last ditch effort, tried uninstalling and reinstalling as suggested. Nope, still crashed:

Out of curiosity; do you have any ASUS/ROG hardware?

I am having the same issue, and an error is occuring when my game crashes, relating to something trying to launch ASUS software, which I don’t even have installed.

Since this seems to have occurred after the patch, give this a try instead:

Exit Diablo IV and Battlenet. Rename your LocalPrefs file for the game. It can be found in Documents\Diablo IV. This will reset the game to defaults the next time you load up.

You will then be prompted to setup brightness and basic config. Then once you are at the character selection menu, make the following changes to the graphics before loading a game:

  • Set your FPS cap to no higher than 120, but start at 60FPS for now.
  • Turn of Nvidia Reflex.
  • Set graphics to High for now.
  • Set Scaling to 100% (it should be here by default)

Then load your game and see if anything changes.

I have the exact same issue with my 4090.

Game could crash immediately after launch for 2 hours in. I’ve changed/toggled every setting I could think of including those in this thread but no solution.

In all cases when I have task manager loaded the game / GPU is running very well and then there’s a spike to 100% and crash happens instantly.

Just FYI, I did a full windows reinstall yesterday to see if it would help. This obviously included a reinstall of Diablo.

Didn’t help.

What wattage is the power supply on that system? A 4090 requires a minimum of a 1000W. 1200W is recommended.

Check another 3d program or run a stress test on your card. D4 killed my 3080ti

I’m having the exact same problem. GPU spike/ to 100% suddenly and crashes.

I have a 3080 (with a 1000w psu) and played the game for a week without any issues.

I have 1600W PSU so that’s def not it.

Well, I had to ask. Not everyone knows to make sure they have plenty of power. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yep, it’s the first question my friends asked.

Any chance you checked the power connector (that mini one) that connects to the GPU itself? I know they can have issues sometimes, if they weren’t seated good and get too hot and can melt the plastic around them. 4090s use a LOT of amps. You can weld metal with the power they have to use.
