So far, I’ve loved the game. It’s beautiful and the story is pretty good. There’s gonna be some spoilers in here, so skip it if you don’t want to know anything.
So, I know there’s some shenanigans regarding soul stones and whether demons are dead or not, but Mephisto is recouperating in his realm. Why is he not completely destroyed when I thought his soul stone was destroyed on the hellforge? What remains of him in his realm is stabbed with the soul stone and presumably sucked inside. So, how is it that his wolf form is still around afterwards?
Also, the soul stone used to jab Mephisto is blue, but the one that was going to be used, even after repairing it, was orange. What’s the deal with that?
My only thoughts, is that there was a quote from the Diablo franchise somewhere along the lines… that was “Evil is Eternal”
I believe that the Three Prime Evils can never be permanently destroyed, they can be destroyed or trapped sure… but they are eternal entities, there will always be those three aspects because those are just the nature of humans
Mephisto, Baal and Diablo’s souls were all released when Malthael destroyed the Black Soul Stone.
The biggest problem with the story is almost all of the events of D3 are never even mentioned when a number of them are kind of a big deal. Like, Lorath literally never once mentions Malthael or the Nephalem that slew him (or even what happened to them). It’s like they purposefully tried to retcon the entire thing out.
D3 wasn’t great, but it wasn’t so bad it shouldn’t have been included. Reaper of Souls ended on a massive cliffhanger and we got ZERO resolution to it. I am beyond annoyed by that.
I get what you’re saying but at the same time I prefer the direction they’ve with D4 in which the player isn’t some god like entity but just a heroic adventurer that somehow is able to overcome incredible odds with the help of some allies. I think they decided they didn’t want the whole concept of an unstoppable nephilim to exist in their new game. I think it also has to do with so much pushback against the D3 narrative, they just wanted to move past it.
