I have been playing D4 without issue since launch. It has worked well even after the patch. But now, loading into the game, the CPU temps skyrocket then my computer restarts.

This particular part is the computer protecting itself. What kind of computer? Desktop, laptop?
Sounds like something has changed. I would go through and rule out any issues with the hardware first.
I would check the Adapter setting in your LocalPrefs.txt file and verify it has not defaulted to your internal GPU vs dedicated GPU.
Documents > Diablo IV > LocalPrefs.txt
change Adapter value from 0 to 1
This sounds like a hardware issue. May be combined with some sort of software issue. But in any case your cpu should thermal throttle itself well before it reaches the point of having to shut down. Even with 100% full clock the cooler should provide enough buffer for it to due so. What are the hardware specs?
