If D4 is going to hawk this shared world experience, they should shamelessly rip a page out of Helldver’s book and have events that happen based on player activity.
Every activity should have the trickle effect of triggering something big like an uber world boss or something. Make it so that player choice in activities can influence the rate of certain outcomes. Like whispers can influence Avarice showing up more quickly. Killing demons can reward the community with titles or loot caches (or even in the more extreme cases, resplendent sparks).
There’s a lot of opportunity to turn the little things players into something collectively exciting instead of just the fastest way to level or get loot. If Blizzard wants the game to thrive, they need to create some illusion that the player is contributing somehow.
Heck, even Helldivers has discount Tyrael sitting by the planning map as I choose my mission. Tell me what to do Tyrael! For Sanctuary!

oh yea thatd be nice. i mean im thinking like uber diablo in d2, where people worked together to sell SoJs and all that stuff.
Pretty sure we will see such stuff in the future in a way or another.

Could go around defeating legions to summon a world boss faster. Fend off increasing hordes at strongholds whilst their power grows stronger meaning each wave they get stronger until all falters or they survive the onslaught

I just think the community driven outcomes and asynchronous contribution towards those goals is a great way to both let your character feel powerful but also establish the context of you being only a small piece in the grand scope. The world just feels bigger when it’s really not.
It would also be neat to have those contributions drive the narrative to future seasons so there’s a light bit of continuity. Also having some seasonal aspects unlock as community contribution and direction can shake up meta mid season depending on what gets unlocked.
