Combat in Lost Ark is Better

I had very high expectations for Diablo IV and hoped Blizzard would draw some inspiration from the gameplay and combat of Lost Ark.

I’m not saying Diablo IV is/will be a worse game than Lost Ark, though time will tell after the full release. However, the basic skill choices in Diablo IV feel restrictive, uninspired, and overall poorly designed.

Why are there less skill choices in Diablo IV than Diablo III? Why does each skill only have 1 upgrade and 2 additional passives that you have to choose between?

Why do underwhelming “Ultimate” skills take up a skill slot when skill slots are already so scarce?

It seems like Blizzard just didn’t innovate at all with Diablo IV. I hope I’m wrong and through the itemization the gameplay will be fun at end-game, if there really is an end-game.

They took all of the worst parts of lost ark and none of the good parts. It’s really quite baffling.

If D4 was like LA - I would quit. To everyone it’s own but I quite like what is being prepared in D4. Still rough around the edges but it is okay.

I don’t like Lost Ark I quit that game but D4 is my kind of thing. To each our own that’s why we have the choice of so many games.

To be clear, I’m not saying I want D4 to replicate Lost Ark’s progression systems or end-game. I just wanted the combat to be a step up from Diablo III and I feel like we took a step backwards.

I don’t think Lost ark’s combat is better than D4’s

I didnt like the keybinds in lost ark at all myself. D4 could take more aspects from lost ark though and make it better which is what blizzard is known for doing. The overwhelimg feedback is to add a slot and keybind for ultimates though

I have 1000s over hours into d3 and as much as i enjoy d3 would need to disagree with you. d4 is way better even as is server problems are better then d3s normal in 4 man greater rifts clearing 150s

I agree with you, Lost Ark’s combat is better.

But at the end of the game they are different games. Lost Ark is made to be more flashy, more high Fantasy. Diablo has always been more Gothic Horror Fantasy, but based more in regular fantasy. No dwarves, elves, fairies. You get what I mean.

I do wish the skills were more flashy, but we still don’t know what legendary skill changes will bring other than a handful available in the beta.

Combat in the early part of Lost Ark isn’t any better. But, yeah, it probably will be. However given a choice between a story about demons, death, decay, betrayal… I’ll take that over smurfs, luau parties, bad anime characters, and the gear upgrade system any day of the week and 666 times on Sunday.

Then you should go play Lost Ark.

I thought the combat in lost ark (in terms of fighting open world creatures not end game bosses) felt really boring and almost like a chore to get to the end game. It felt like comboing in street fighter over and over again. Just hit QWER over and over after setting up spells in the proper order.

Diablo, at least from the specs I played felt a lot more engaging and dynamic, meaning I’m not always casting QWER over and over. Maybe this feeling also had to do with the difficulty of the creatures? Nothing was that difficult but in lost ark while leveling I didn’t have to pay attention to anything at all and it felt more boring to me. Never had to heal etc.

I did sink about 400 hours into lost ark, so I definitely enjoyed it, just not the combat when it came to leveling vs end game. The noises characters made while casting spells also annoys me in lost ark. Sounds like someone is getting surprise poked in the butt every half second :joy:

I did enjoy how it all came together end game for lost ark though. The abilities all felt pretty powerful and looked good, although a bit too much animation screen clutter with a bunch of people in the group

Lost Ark is Diablo for Final Fantasy fans.

oh, that is a really good analogy.

D4 very much feels like a game that was designed to be played perfectly on a controller.
I haven’t played D3 and Immortal, but I suspect it’s the same with those games.
D2 was actually a PC exclusive back in the day, and it shows. It was made to be played on a PC, with the full keyboard at your disposal.

D4 is not aimed for players who have a full keyboard at your disposal.
It’s made for controllers with 4 buttons and 4 triggers, and two joysticks.

I’m actually planning to buy this on console since I realised the fact that you can play D4 perfectly on a controller.

I played Lost Ark 1300 hours , did quit more then 3 months ago. Problem with lost ark its nature of P2W because of this if you want f2p you need to make 6+ alts and farm same stuff several hours everday and do same raids. IN diablo you can just play one class and even give powerfull items to your alts if you want , In lost ark you cant send items to your alt . and realy lost ark is like a work while diablo is a proper game.

Then go play lost ark, nothing of value was lost.

Yep. My thoughts exactly.

But for me, I had Lost Ark for like 30 minutes and deleted it. Didn’t like the art style. At least for the visual aesthetics, D4 still beats everyone.
