Co-Op Quest Desync/Missed Dialog or Cutscenes

Me and my Co-Op partner (not couch coop) are playing through quests and it seems like often times with the main quests frequently one of us misses out on dialog or a cutscene.

Essentially, when the quest requires us to talk to an NPC, sometimes when one of us starts the conversation, the other player is able to also talk to them and hear the same conversation. Other times the NPC just vanishes and goes to the next step immediately for them and they don’t get to hear what was said or see what happened.

This can either skip a whole in game cutscene or just one of those quick dialog bits/walk around portions.

I don’t remember this being an issue in the beta and we’re still just progressing through Act 1 and it’s happening multiple times.

We’ve tried having me as the party leader be the one to interact and it will often cause her to miss out conversations, so we tried it the other way around and then I end up missing out on dialog/cutscenes despite it being my story progression being the one the game is using.

I have seen so many threads pointing out this issue, some as far back as beta. As an always-online game how was this not tested properly?

This is one of those bugs that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. There is a limited window on how long people will be trying to go through the campaign together before they’re just done with it (and missed large swaths of it along the way).

Sadly I have not seen this popping up as a known issue from Blizzard despite it being reported during the beta tests.

Yeah I’ve been trying to remember our experience from playing both the early/open beta and the Server Slam. I don’t remember us having to really worry about timing anything with talking to the NPCs while we were playing. But almost immediately during the release version it was apparent that we were missing out on stuff.

Maybe we just got lucky during the betas and it’s not meant to actually happen this way. But whatever is going on, it’s definitely happening way more often right now for us and we might just have to stick to playing solo for the rest of the acts so we don’t miss anything… which isn’t really how we expected to have to play the game.

Fingers crossed we get some sort of answer about them being aware of it though!

Who cares as long as we can bay 28 Dollars for a cheap skin …

Honestly coop is a joke - besides what you said sometimes only the first player seems to get some dialogue and there also seem to be quest progression bugs - i now have 2 act 1 queests at different points in the story and missed lots of story …

Any normal developer would have tested this and at least add an option to halt progress for people joining - or even reset. But this is blizzard - they arent even able to make a good working MP system so …

I dont understand why this isnt a way bigger topic.

I’ve noticed that (when in a party) only the first person who interacts with a “vista” viewpoint can experience it, repeatedly if they desire. Anyone else in the party completely loses the option to see it.

I feel like most of the co-op testing was done through couch co-op, which might explain why a lot of these bugs were never noticed and caught (as everyone staring at the same screen could see the same thing).

However, if you search through these forums the co-op bugs were reported often, so that’s on Blizzard for ignoring them. I guess if it’s not a bug interfering with purchasing from the cash-shop then it doesn’t get a priority fix. We sure got a lot of those in the days following launch.

I am in love with the game! I’ve made a couple of posts on how this game is a return to form, and one that has been developed with love for the franchise with meticulous attention to detail; story, graphics, and gameplay.

But yes, as a lore junkie, I find it more frustrating than most that I cannot play the story campaign with my partner, lest either of us misses important cutscenes or dialogue. We can screenshot and send to each other, but it’s such a waste given the incredible voice talent they’ve used for the game and its story.

Yeah this is really frustrating, and if you try to play together, it’s not even always obvious if you’re even missing something. I went through almost an entire stronghold the other day without any of the dialogue, until my complete lack of reaction clued my partner in that I wasn’t getting anything because I had no idea I was supposed to be. So it’s not even restricted to just the main story.

Glad to find this, I started the campaing 2 days ago with my partner and while the first 2-3 hours were okay, yesterday there were a bunch of these. I missed conversations, then we switched on who was the party leader and then he missed conversations.

Also the panoramic viewpoint bug happened. Hope we haven’t missed other things

What an unfortunate issue. Really a waste of artistic talent

Necro! Cause it’s still fing happening in the new xpac. Are my wife and I supposed to play your multiplayer game separately???

I’m Necro’ing this too. Finally picked up this overpriced garbage game, was enjoying the story, and now I missed an important cutscene because my co-op partner skipped it. I didn’t get ANY prompts to view it and there’s NO option to go back and watch it again. At this point, why even play co-op with friends if now I have to fear them ruining the story for me by skipping crap?

With all the money Blizzard brings in, and their history of allowing people to go back and re-watch/re-read stuff, you’d think somewhere in their infinite wisdom they’d have fixed this by now. But no, they have more important things to do, like making horse armor to sell for $20.
