Close Quarters Combat nerf?

1.2 patch note

  • Close Quarters Combat
    • Damage Calculation Updated.
    • Previous: Damaging a Close enemy with Marksman or Cutthroat Skills each grant a 10% (additive damage) [+] Attack Speed bonus for 8 seconds. While both Attack Speed bonuses are active, you deal 30% [x] increased damage against Crowd Controlled enemies.
    • New: Damaging a Close enemy with Marksman or Cutthroat Skills each grant a 10% [+] Attack Speed bonus for 8 seconds. While both Attack Speed bonuses are active, your damage dealt is increased by 40%[x] of the total amount of your Damage vs Crowd Controlled bonus.

If I have 500% additive dmg (150% dmg vs cc).
SS1 CQC will be 500%x1.3 = 650% dmg
SS2 CQC will be 350%+ (150%x1.4) = 560% dmg

So SS2, CQC is no longer global multiplicative to other buckets, right?

Please correct me.

This is not correct, it’s more like.

It also now applies vs all enemies instead of just vs crowd controlled enemies. It’s pretty busted.

Why’d you change it to 350%?

Edit: Oh I see what you’re saying…So technically, yes with lower values of +Damage Vs Crowd Controlled enemies it’s a nerf to the total damage. However this is Blizz’s way of encouraging you to stack +Damage Vs Crowd Controlled enemies if you’re running a CC Build, and the damage also applies to non-CCed enemies

Uh, assuming I’m reading that right this is a gigantic buff.

The former states that you do extra damage to CC’d enemies, the latter implies an always on damage buff that scales off your bonus damage to CC’d enemies.

That’s huge, especially vs bosses.

So, the massive difference is that this is now applying the damage to all monsters not just ccd ones. This is probably the best talent overall for TB. Sadly… i hate TB lol. To keep this buff up i would have to shafowstep on cd with less that a 6 second cd on it.

I use it with rapid fire and dash. I can keep it up all the time, it lasts 8 seconds

Yea, CQC is way better on Flurry/Rapid Fire/Flurry & Rapid Fire builds that use a basic to keep up Combo Points and the CQC buff.

Having picked Damage VS CC’d enemies in S1. This meant bosses were a pain, however with this it’ll allow some of that damage to go through to non CCd enemies, whilst still providing damage when they are CCd.

It’s a good change, for once

Most RF build use puncture which is a marksman skill and the spender is already a marksman skill, so we can’t get both CQC buffs up, unless you drop puncture to cuttroath basic skill.

Let’s see how it turns out…

Some of us use dash to setup our second Close Quarters Combat stack, which works quite well especially if you use Aspect of Quickening Fog.
