Client has been disconnected from the server. Keeps happening and nothing seems to help

I keep getting kicked to the character select menu and getting the message, “The game connection has been lost: your client has been disconnected from the server.” It happens randomly all the time and there’s no error code. It doesn’t seem to be connected to anything in particular and happens at random, (high population areas, low pop areas, in a dungeon, in an event, or doing nothing at all). Its been happening since friday june 30th or so. I have done everything on the blizzard suggestions and nothing helps at all. Is anyone else having this issue? Is there a way to fix it? Can Blizard please look into this??? I can’t do anything meaningful in the game because I DC before I can do anything, which leaves me to just freeroam since i can’t lose progress on that… Please help this sucks.

any ping problems in game / lag / rubber banding ?

I’m unsure if this will help but have you tried disabling the “cross-network play” and “cross-network communications” on the Socials section of the options? this has to be done from the character selection screen if not mistaken.

See if that helps at all as it does fix some stuttering and lag issues for some players when in the HUB areas

They won’t look into it because their engineers are telling them there is nothing wrong on their end, at least according to the ticket response I got back this morning that is. They told me to submit a bug report on the bug report forums for the QA/Dev team to see and that is it.

+1 Same issue.

I got in a 40min session today which is a miracle. Most are 5-15min at most. At times I’m unable to progress through complex quests or finish a dungeon without restarting several times.

This was NOT an issue at launch. It has manifested in the last week.

No issues locally. No issues with other apps.

I’m now taking network captures of this and it’s jaw dropping.

The disconnects hint that it’s a network device not the server. Multiple resets after the TCP connection ends for example. This hints something in the middle killed the connection for both client and server, then as packets already in transit arrive to a closed connection they get expected resets.

But really the network capture impression I get is: Holy crap how did this ever work at all?? I’m amazed I’m making it to 10 minutes in a session!

Initially after a client connect there is packet loss. Lots of dup acks due to TCP sack option flagging a missing segment. Sporadic bursts of this along with normal TCP flow for some time. Then suddenly… The retransmits become nearly continuous. It’s obvious the far side (server) is not getting ACKs.

While this is happening (on TCP 6113, 6114 or so) the rest of the client TCP connections are fine.

PaperTrouser,
what isp / modem / router are you using? I know odd question since other stuff works fine, just a lot posts about this game having disco errors and no other games. Still a strong possibility something on blizz’s coding for server side or client side network comms.

also, you’re using the same 2.5Gb Realtek connection I have. Just a long shot but see if your adapter has the most up to date driver from Asus for the board
https://www.asus.com/motherboards-components/motherboards/prime/prime-z690-p/helpdesk_download/?model2Name=PRIME-Z690-P

The MB firmware on Asus’ site says updated 4/20/23 - Bios Version 2404
Double check if yours is current
Keep in mind if you update an Asus bios any custom settings you’ve enabled are likely going to be defaulted with a new update.

Update: I’ve tried running with crossplay disabled, no changes still disconnects.
All drivers and components are up to date on computer from top to bottom, still crashing. Other games run fine.
While running the game, all systems running a appropriate loads and temps. I’ve been monitoring them to see if anything is off or spikes at the crash, but nothing.

I’ve been having the same issue and it got much worse yesterday. I submitted a help ticket with tracer-txt, dxdiag-txt, and msconfig-txt all attached. Now they want me to run a 3rd party program called ping-plotter which, according to the email is only done “in special cases”

It’s the same old Blizzard from the D2 days, no matter how many people are having the same problem they will say that it is not on them. It looks like the answer will be what it was for D2 and D3, take a long break from the game and hopefully when you return they will have finally gotten their heads out of you know where and take action to address the connectivity issues.

Eh, the weather is getting too good to stay inside.
