You want to incentivize us to play yet there is zero incentive unless you want to play the only good class and build in the game.
I always play mage. If mage is crap I simply will just not play. Like last season, I did not even log in. Once. Though the season looking dumb was also a contributing factor.
If you want people to play your game, don’t have one class / spec 1,000%+ better than the others.
I figured that was a given in game design… Apparently not.
I have some bad news for you.
No single ARPG in the history of the human species has ever had true balance between all builds and classes.
Every single patch in history of every single ARPG game EVER, has had OP builds and bad builds. Get used to it or dont play as you said. If you wish to be a one trick pony, you will have to live with the reality of the world.
That’s not to say i dont “WISH” it was better than it is now. Minions damage is stupid im literally 1 shotting Uber Duriel because of Holy Elixir hahahaha (before the elixir it would take me like a minute)
There is a difference between amicable balance and wildly swayed balance.
If you look at the assessment videos of all the main hardcore streamers for Diablo in general, they all say that Necro is S+++++++.
There is zero reason for this.
There is zero reason to take even a month to apply a balance patch.
I don’t want my class to be the uber broken, I didn’t even play ball lightning when it was out because it didn’t look fun to play. I was fine with how my blizzard build performed.
I just want each class to be within a few points of each other, that’s really not too much to ask.
I’m not looking for true balance, I just want not to struggle like I’m playing Darks Souls in T68 with blizzard while watching necros and bash barbs face tank into T90. Forget Frozen orb they gutted it before we could have any fun with it.
Blizzard is wildly too arbitrary with their balancing. Some thing they instagib - others they let sit for five seasons.
Sorc is what I would consider the worst class in the game (again after S1).
When will we stop being nerfed in the damn test realm while other classes endlessly remain overpowered?
To be fair it’s the streamers fault for this partially. Most barbs played DD and it got nerfed while sorcs abused Frozen orb. Meanwhile some of the streamers theory crafted the 2 new barb builds and tested them while not showcasing them.
Necros are a whole another deal and I’m OK with minions being busted, they deserve it since it was a core class aspect that was missing for 3 seasons.
You’re confusing discovery and responsibility. It’s not the player bases’ job to showcase broken builds at every opportunity. It’s Blizzard’s job to fundamentally design items and builds so that they are primarily balanced and if there are any outliers, bring them in as soon as possible. Which they apparently refuse to do, on all levels.
If one or two streamers can figure this out in their spare time. Why can a Blizzard employee that is paid to crunch numbers not figure it out?
There is no way that blizzard devs can idiot proof and balance every build, look at PTR for examples. Frosty which is an utility aspect was doing dmg in the hundreds of millions, frozen orb largely performed better due to a bug. The responsibility of people joining in PTR is to test and GIVE feedback on over or underperforming/bugged builds. If you blasted for 100 hours a week there is no way a dev who does his regular job discover all the interactions.
The problem is that it is D4 devs probably didn’t test the builds before they fixed the bugs and instead nerfed them then fixed the bugged interactions resulting in a greater nerf.
No one expects exactly the same things from the different classes…but they do need to stay within reason. Max Damage being 200K for one class and 600M for another is a fail on the balance team’s part.
It’s their job to. The Blizzard special is the classic ‘this item would be cool’ while not caring how it would interact with current builds, items or other classes.
You NEED framework to start.
What do you want endgame damage for each spec to look like.
1b. What builds / abilities / procs do you want their endgame damage to be?
1c. What is the maximum damage output you want to exist in the game?
1d. What is the minimum damage output you want to exist in the game within the
realm of these builds?
How will you get them there, with the limited damage affixes, paragon boards, etc.
What is the min / max of the damage given all these variables?
Is it on par with our vision and other classes?
It’s really not hard to design endgame builds. Once you have the core framework, it’s easy to add new legendries to groom and modify existing builds or even add items that amp otherwise useless builds.
They don’t do this. They clearly do not have the constructive and intuitive conversations / calculations to make this happen.
I am not even saying it’s the developers fault, maybe they just aren’t given the time to do so. In which case, we need to collectively decide that we are not okay with this. Vote with your wallet. When that expansion drops, DO NOT BUY IT UNLESS EVERYTHING LOOKS UBER UNIQUE THREE STAR QUALITY.
This is the issue at the core of the game, specially now in Loot update. There are only certain builds that can enjoy that end game. If you are not one of those builds, you can just skip it.
They said many times about builds diversity. This is exactly the opposite. They create uber builds and force everyone to play it, even though it’s not ones playstyle.
This game has class balance since day one. Not sure if it’s by design or something else.
And here comes Timmy. Timmy picked unrelated to the build tempering on his weapon but for his surprise the affix proc echoes through his build unique effect. Now Timmy does billions of damage.
As a person who worked in QA I can assure you Timmy is always out there.
Well this is the issue, I refuse to believe that they cannot compute all damage outputs in the game prior to it being on live. If they cannot, then IDK what to say… If you can’t do your job… Maybe find something else.
If one does get through or one is underperforming, it shouldn’t take months to update and balance.
Uniques are useless right now. Literally useless thanks to tempering. (Edit: Most uniques).
I tested my blizzard build with blue rose and with my normal legendary tempered ring - blue rose was literally 1/2 the damage. This is a Duriel semi-endgame unique.
Blue rose was the only item in the game to provide ice spike bonus damage. It caps out around 50% I think. You can temper a ring to get 110% ice spike damage.
No one asked for nerfs. It’s more in the lines of begging for buffs. It shouldn’t take the dev team half a season to finally buff underperforming builds when most players have lost interest in the season.
I want them to DO THEIR JOB AND DO MATH. Not just throw crap at the game and hope it sticks whilst not breaking it.
I don’t want any one thing to be nerfed or buffed. I want them to do what they should have prior to the game even launching. DO THEIR JOB AND NOT DEPEND ON PLAYERS TO FIND THE HOLES IN THEIR HORRID OR LACK THERE OF CALCULATIONS.
This level of expectation is why we are where we are. If you shrug off bad design, you’ll get worse design as a result. You think these companies will put in the extra effort if it doesn’t pay off?
No. Be better. Your time and money are worth more than you know.
