Chat error 44 you have been squelched

I received a squelch for an inappropriate name. now lets set aside for a moment just how absurd that is and address my main concern. It has been 5 days, I cannot use chat still. I did not receive an email from Blizzard, so I do not know how long I am squelched. I have submitted 2 tickets, both received an answer of ‘appeal denied’, but failed to answer the basic question of ‘how long?’.

Now for the absurd part. Being an objective person I can accept that a punishment may be earned and I am not contesting it, because it is trivial to be honest. So I cannot talk for some given amount of time, ok I can deal with it, I would just like to know how much time, a day, a week, a year? I hate to break it to you though, without a name change, people can still read the offensive name on their screen…the squelch does not protect the sensitive from offense…Just maybe, and hear me out, just maybe a squelch is not the correct tool for an offensive name, perhaps you could try forced name changes instead…just sayin…!

As far as I know, you can not rename a character, and as long as your character has that name you will be silenced.

I think this means that if you want to use the chat, you will need to make a new character.

same to me. also it’s not just your character with the inappropriate name, they silence your whole account. i went on my eternal characters and they are silenced as well. so i don’t think making a new character will help.

First offense is usually a week so I would expect it to be in that range.

The lack of an email is concerning though. You should have gotten one to your Bnet registered email. Check the spam and promotion filters. Sometimes they eat Blizzard emails. Failing to find one there, the ticket request SHOULD have provided you the missing information…

Were you given the option to rename the character? If so, did you pick something within the game rules? Keep in mind the game is rated M, but the rules the players have to follow for player created content (names and chat) are very family friendly. T minus really. The forum Code of Conduct does a good job explaining the types of things Blizz actions for - if reported. Blizzard Support - Forum Code of Conduct

MVPs are other players, do I don’t work for, or represent Blizzard. If I can find out more about the D4 reporting and account action process for inappropriate names I will post back though. Being a new game I don’t actually know what tools they have yet and how they handle each infraction type.

It is the Game License that is penalized. It is very rare they action a whole Battlenet Account, but that can also happen in some circumstances.

yes, I checked spam. I did get emails when my appeal tickets were answered, so I know I am getting some blizz emails.

A third GM looked at my appeal and granted name changes, however they did not answer the ‘how long’ question. The new names were just nektorik, so it should not violate now.

In the battle net launcher I cannot send messages, as I am squelched. I can send guild, local, general, say messages in WOW classic, but not DM’s.

Assuming that I should be punished for the issue, an argument for another time, it seems a squelch is just not the right one for a naming issue, as it neither remedies the communities issues, nor prevents the player from continuing to offend.

That was my concern, that you would have to level a new hero up all over again, if they did not have a way for you to rename the hero.

In WoW the first time name penalty is just a name change. Further infractions result in name changes and suspensions.

In Diablo Immortal I THINK they do chat squelches for chat/name infractions? I am basing that on posts I have seen so don’t quote me on that being right. It does not come from Blizzard.

I don’t know the policy for D4 but am doing what I can to find out.

Glad you at least have the name changes so can play.

For now assume your duration is a week. Frustrating that they did not answer the duration question though!!!

So I did finally get a reply. It is a 14 day squelch. If that is the punishment then so be it, it just seems odd to be squelched for a name violation and then I had to ask multiple times for renames, meanwhile I still carry the name and continue to offend.

Blizz should be cautious though, in todays day and age considering the name is also my sexual identity and orientation. Thanks for the feed back, have fun in game, talk to yall in 9 more days lol.

It doesn’t let me add anyone on my battle net. So I am also silenced for all battle net games I am assuming and not just Diablo 4.

I am afraid I honestly don’t know the mechanics of that right now. A silence in D4 should be limited to D4. If the silence is for Bnet services it might impact that entirely. I don’t know how they have it set up.
