For whatever reason, Chasing Embers cannot be completed. Torben is with me when I reach the pile of burning wood & a charred NPC but no quest update. Already tried abandoning the quest & restarting it but the result is the same. BUGGED QUEST that doesn’t update when I reach the appropriate area. Seriously, do the devs not actually PLAY-TEST their own game & is QA always asleep at the wheel? Inexcusable & totally unacceptable Blizzard.

It gets worse, too. This bug has been around for over 2 years. It seems like people had figured out ways to work around it, but none of them seem work anymore.

Same, I was going to submit this bug yesterday but things came up. Torben would normally speak once I approach the area but he just remains silent. Also there would be instances where Torben would disappear as I rode to around the area. I tried to TP in and out as well as logging in and out of the same area in hopes to progress the quest but he doesn’t do anything. I even tried to wait in the specific area and nothing occurs.

Yup…same issue… there goes my plan of doing all side quests.
and someone said this bug has been present in some form for 2 years?
feels good to give a game a try again after abandoning it and encountering things like this.

Ugh, same bug. Wandered around the area for 20 mins before I looked up a guide to find the issue’s not with me. Thank you for posting about this.

It’s really annoying, especially when you read that this quest has apparently been bugged for two years?
It seems like no one is interested in fixing it.
Wow, 2 years in and they haven’t bothered to fix this? And here I was excited to play and this among other PC glitches just makes me feel like I wasted money AGAIN. It’s D3 all over again with abandoned quest bugs.
Same issue here. Never encountered this bug until season 9.

I’m also stuck, in Chasing Embers, at the point where you need to rescue someone at the burning pyre in the Scar region.
During season 8, I had the same issue, but it fixed itself after I completed the Whispering Pine dungeon nearby, but it doesn’t seem to have worked this time.
Another bug, in that part, that I have noticed is the disappearance of Torban (the NPC that follows you with this quest). If I climb the climbable area (so from down to the upper side) within the blue area during that part of the quest, Torban often disappears on the bottom, but won’t reappear once I’m on the top until I either select another quest and select this one again or until I change area via a portal or transition point. (Torban’s portrait is still on the left side, but his character and dot on the map isn’t there anymore.)
Same bug for me. I specifically remember completing this quest late into season 8 with no issues. Infact I 100% completed every area in the base game. It was a couple of days before I bought the Vessel of Hatred expansion which then came on sale. Perhaps this has something to do with it? This isn’t the only quest that is bugged for me so far either, but this thread is specifically about Chasing Embers.
It’s been days. They seem to have broken something completely here just lately. Sounds like quest was always unstable and they pulled the wrong Jenga block in some update and shattered it completely.
Since Season 7, Blizzard’s so-called “patches” have broken more than they fix. Heck, they can’t even be bothered to fix the broken Aether count in Infernal Hordes - something that crept up last season…

I understand that you’re having issues with the quest Chasing Embers, from my investigation, I cannot confirm any issues with the quest. This isn’t to say an issue doesn’t exist, only that it’s neither confirmed nor reported internally, as such we lack a workaround for this matter.
Its definitely broken. Tried multiple ways to trigger the end of the quest at the Pyre and it wont complete. Devs need to fix a couple quest.
Not true. I completed Chasing Embers shortly after the game first launched. Blizzard broke it via one of their so-called “patches”… Just like they broke the Aether count in Infernal Hordes during Season 8 - a bug that persists in the current season.
I’m actually experiencing this bug on all of my characters. As well, with several other quests.
