There should be a statistics overview interface that can be used to guide the selection of skills, equipment, and any other component of the player character that can be used.
Basically, just have a breakdown of all of the important characteristics on the left hand side of the screen and update it whenever an item/skill/weapon/etc… is changed on the existing interface on the right.
