After playing the game and leveling both hardcore and softcore characters there is a feeling of slog and slow pacing in the game. I can only imagine the incentive to continue for seasons dwindling very, very fast if these are not addressed.
Map fog of war. Why is this even a thing on second, third or fourth characters. everyone literally plays with the interactive map on a second monitor as it is. After filling out the map once you should not have to do this again, its 2023 ffs.
Renown rewards in general. Why is so much character power tied into renown. It makes the thought of doing this again on seasonal feel really bad. It was already god awful doing it twice because for some reason doing all renown on hardcore doesn’t affect softcore which is retarded and creates a huge slog before you can have fun grinding monsters again, aka the point of diablo games. Nobody wants to grind the skill points and paragon points every season just make those account wide forever and tie battlepass rewards to renown or something instead.
Why on earth do waypoints outside of major cities not stay activated on new characters, this goes back to map progress in point #1.
Game balance for leveling is terrible, if you want people to have to change specs to level and play at different tiers or endgame activities then respec should be cheaper. your philosophy on respec costs and the game content we have directly are at war with each other and it just feels bad. If you want respec to be prohibitive then bring up the crappy specs and stop nerfing the only good ones.
Please fix resource generation, mainly from a barb point of view since the class is pigeonholed into taking 3 shouts no matter the “Build” (the only difference in builds is your core at this point, lol) Nerfing damage is fine, players can adjust but having to run in circles and afk wait for 10-20 seconds just to shout and play again is a poor design.
It’s not season 1 yet but hopefully these are addressed quickly otherwise the slog will create massive burnout and repeat seasons will see population plummet.
This is one of the biggest sticking points to me. That and collecting all the alters. They should reward titles or maybe transmog. Not player power. Collecting all the alters and maxing out renown is tedious. I do not want to do this every season.
Altars, campaign skip, and renown all need to carry over to seasons in order for seasons to have any serious momentum. Leveling is slow and grindy enough on its own XD
Seriously need to consider letting altars, map, renown be permanently unlocked.
I’ve got a feeling I’m going to start a season and then just say nah and quit.
Maybe I’m in the minority. Doing it once was enough, afterwards players should be able to just play story or jump right into grinding out gear/levels.
Also, sidequests really need to have a way to track what has and hasnt been done.
after doing it once I can’t even imagine how bad it’ll be to do all the quests and dungeons every seasons. If the renown doesn’t carry over most people including me won’t play more than season 1
I can do lilith statue one more time for season, but definite not those 115 dungeon. I’m still 52 left to complete my renown. ain’t no way I do that again on season, I guess thats why they made those battle past lol. u pretty much hard skip the entire process.
Points 1, 3, and 5: yep, you right. Basic skills suck across the board and are bad for the resource generating classes. Map fog on alts skipping the campaign is absolutely awful game design.
Point 2: Nah. Renown is an acceptable grind. I’m here for it. It’s basically just “do varied content and be rewarded”.
Point 4: Nah. Leveling has felt fine across the board regardless of spec.
Seems like a huge majority of people are alright doing Renown once, but get sick of it and want it to not be as important in seasons. From what I’ve been hearing/seeing at least.
I want a full explored map with full waypoints. Renown gold and exp is fine, but the stats and potions should be unlocked.
The side quests are bad. The dungeons are almost all the same. The Strongholds are alright, but I wouldn’t call them fun. The lilith shrines are boring, and you can tell they tried their best to hide most of them behind objects so you miss them often. I’ve had multiple people tell me they didn’t even find one on their own until way later in the game, then you just grab a map and get them all.
Diablo is at heart a dungeon crawler I want that to be where I spend the bulk of my time. No world quests, no world exploration just let me enjoy the dungeon grind.
Fantastic post that hits a lot of the issues I have. They have a lot of work to do.
I also would love it if they had some whispers that were simply to go kill a boss from the story. The monotony of running dungeons and whispers is getting to me and I would love it if bosses got thrown in, witch a proper loot table with uniques.
I agree with everything you said except for this, hardcore and softcore should ALWAYS have a total degree of separation, its not a good idea to have shared stat pools.
MAYBE you can give hardcore alts passive buffs from renown and altars of lilith, but this should only be for the base game, in hardcore only, it should all start over again when you have a new season.

very much agreed, i wanted to have more engaging combat with my WW barb in D4 than in 3, i wanted to do much more than just spam shouts for buffs to maintain survivability, this is playing like a 2.0 version of diablo immortal, and i didn’t quit that just because of the horrendous monetisation systems, i quit it because the combat was slow and dull.
Lilith statues only give renown exp during seasons, their actual buff for your characters is already unlocked for your account when you got them the first time.
You do know that you dont need to clear everything to reach the last renown reward for each zone? There is no need to do most of the dungeons for renown, if you rather want to go with the side-quests.
The Battle-Pass has nothing to do with renown at all, you dont skip anything with it.
I agree and currently the renown system just eats away at my motivation to experiment with new characters and the thought of starting a season and having to do all that busy work for my ability points and paragon points is just god awful game design.
I just hope they don’t make us play through the entire storyline… over and over like we had to in D2.
That’s the primary reason hardly anyone still plays POE too. They started doing that in D3, but then the backlash hit and they went a different way (thank god). It seems like they are making the same mistake now too.
I bet seasons will just be playing from the beginning but with ladders and maybe a little mechanic tweak like they do in D3 and I can’t imagine that would be any fun with the current state of the game
Map fog of war, is so that those other characters can earn renown towards the per-character rewards. And no, not everyone plays with a map on the second monitor; not everyone has a second monitor.
Account-wide Renown will not be reset in Seasons; it will carry over, just as it does for new non-season characters.
Why should they stay activated?

Resource generation is fine. We’re not supposed to be spamming our Spender skills 10 or 20 times before bottoming out. Nor do you have to “run in circles and wait” … just use your gorram Basic skill, it exists for the very purpose of speeding your resource regeneration!
Everyone here talking about how to make re-leveling over and over less of a pain but here I am like “ppfttt, I’m not re-leveling a single character.”
