Chain lightning Sorcerer CE Endgame - Esadora’s Overflowing Cameo?

Hi all,

I m running a CL-Sorcerer (lvl 100), using multi-teleport build with raiment, and assigned the following skills:

  • Chain lightning
  • Ice Blades
  • Flame Shield
  • Frost Nova
  • Teleport
  • Unstable currents
  • Enchantment slots: Fire bolt, Teleport

I m using the following aspects on my gear:

  • 2H Staff: Aspect of control
  • Chest: Raiment
  • Head: Frostblitz Aspect
  • Gloves: Aspect of the unbroken tether
  • Pants: Aspect of disobedience
  • Boots: aspect of binding embers
  • Amulet: Elementalist´s Aspect
  • Ring 1: Recharging Aspect
  • Ring 2: Tal Rasha

So far, it is working pretty good. I have found similar builds in the internet; most of them prefer Ice armor instead of Frost nova. Do you know why? Because 2 charges of frost nova (to apply vulnerability) seems to me more reasonable.
Recently, I found Esadora’s Overflowing Cameo and I m seriously thinkng about taking it instead of my present amulet. i m also considering Esu´s Heirloom as boots.
What do you think of this?

Kind regards!

You need “static surge” on the paragon for vulnerability, scale attack speed to get vulnerability faster. The best way to get the max out of this build is to go perma “unstable currents”.

Lightning damage does not scale well. You will struggle later in the end game. It’s a lot of fun this build, but you won’t be able to go deeper in pit. You just won’t output the dmg.

Edit:
I wanna add one more thing. This game is designed and balanced around streamers, not enthusiasts like the rest of us. Bli$$ is not interested in a good and fun gameplay, but how many hours played on twitch.

Esu’s Heirloom, yes, though if you are getting good use out of Elementalists, it might be redundant; I’d probably choose one or the other.

Ice Armor is good for a number of possible uses depending on one’s build; with Tibault’s and Snowveiled it gives Unstoppable, damage and mana. With Conceited and Storm Swell it helps maintain uptime on barrier for the damage bonuses. 30% mana regen is pretty good too, though I don’t expect you need it with Recharging Aspect.

Esadora’s is a bad item, but all that said:

I’d honestly just do what seems fun and not worry about min maxing. Like scuty said, Chain Lightning isn’t strong this season and won’t take you too deep into end game. Bossing will be tough. So, just play the way you want and try not to worry about pushing deep into Pits or NMDs. I cleared a T100 with Chain Lightning in S2 but it wasn’t easy; the bosses especially were difficult to do much damage to. Pit bosses will be much worse. So play until you hit a wall and then decide whether to respec to something else for deep progression or call it good and roll an alt or hang it up until next season.

Hi,

thank to you both for your replies and your suggestions!

Why do you think Esadora’s is a bad item, when using unstable currents anyway? I think it gives you a nice boost for example to Shocking impact and UC overall.

I m already using Static surge - but I think it is not as reliably triggering vulnerability to enemies than Frost nova. Or am I wrong? Applying vulnerability is essential in my opinion. Do you think I can swap out Frost nova and take Ice armor instead when already using Static surge?

Esu’s Heirloom: not using it, yet. At the moment I m using boots giving me +4 to Flame shiled, +3 to Frost nova and +3 to Teleport. Are Esu’s Heirloom BiS on boots?

And I totally agree: you should play your own style/build - as long you are having fun.

Thanks again for your suggestions!

Vulnerability is very important. If you max your attack speed every 3 casts of CL you will make every mob vulnerable. Spending resource will refresh your Ice Armor.

You can use the points from frost nova on something else.

Agreed. We are just telling your our observations after playing this build.

Esadora’s has bad stats; no one uses Shocking Impact, for one thing, because the damage does not scale very well and bosses are immune to Stun anyway. Especially where you’re not using Lightning Spear (highly recommended by the way, it’s like a frost nova that last for eight seconds albeit not quite as flashy), which is by far the best way for a shock build to stun things. Ranks in Devouring Blaze or Conjuration Mastery are considerably better.

As for the unique affix, the problem with it is that the CE orbs have to be near something for the nova to be useful, and triggering them requires you to stop shooting lightning and move. Granted, you should be regularly repositioning for tactical reasons, but movement just to pick up orbs takes away from your DPS. I encourage you to try it though, as it is at least kind of fun to play around with, especially with Destructive Chain Lightning where you can quickly carpet a room with CE. It’s just not good when you’re doing difficult content because you’ll miss the 50% stronger amulet aspect, not to mention the better stats you can put on a regular legendary.

Esu’s Heirloom is good because if you also put movement speed on amulet you can get a lot of free critical hit chance. Additionally, the speed boost on evade also contributes to that bonus, so for 3 seconds out of every 4 you can work it to have a super high or even 100% critical chance; that’s why it’s probably redundant with Elementalist’s Aspect. I prefer it to that because it’s easier to use and comes with good stats too, plus offensive aspects are more valuable than what I can put on boots. HOWEVER it does not give the speed boost on evade with the Teleport enchantment, so if you decide to use them you should switch enchants.

Vulnerability is very important indeed, which is why I’ll plug Lightning Spear again. It’s the best shock spell in the game other than Unstable Currents. For that matter it’s one of the best spells in the whole Sorc kit now that it applies Vulnerable on top of Stun. You should find a way to put it on your action bar.

Thanks agin for your replies!

To sum up,

  • I could omit Frost nova and take Ice armor instead, because vulnerability is applied by Static surge.

  • I could omit Elementalists aspect on the amulaet and take Esus Heirloom instead., to increase my CC. On the amulet, i could use another (offenive) aspect (question: which one?)

  • Considering Lightnig spear: It is hard to find a slot on the bar, because I m using Ice blades; which is needed for Tal rasha, to apply a damage boost.

  • Considering enchantments:

Flame bolt is set; far too valuable in this build, becasue I m also using burning instinct paragon etc.

Teleport is more or less also set, because I m playing the telestomp variant, stunning with raiment (and currently 2 charges of Frost nova)

What do you think?

Best regards

If you have no slot, try perma unstable currents and buff your lightning spear. And it doesn’t even have to be perma unstable currents, with say 5-10 secs not being on unstable currents.

For boots, if you can find some good Flickerstep, go for it. Esu is great, but when you get in the endgame, you will struggle with dmg. Lightning does not scale well. You want to be perma unstable currents. This is your major dmg source.

Buff lightning spear.
