Chain lightning mana on a single mob with legendary power is how it should always feel

The only time chain lightning feels “good” after early levels when you can one or two tap everything is when you have the legendary power where it restores mana after it bounces off of you and you are fighting a single mob. You still lose mana, but its slower and actually manageable, and you can keep casting chain lightning instead of being oom every other cast.

The legendary power should be changed to restore mana after every other bounce and the spell would feel a million times better. As it stands, lightning sorcs main damage comes from our ultimate “unstable currents” which doesnt do damage but requires us to spam skills for the benefits. Its no surprise then that the only thing it currently really works with are basic skills that we can actually spam, and things that reduce the cooldown so we can use it again asap, aka arc lash builds.

Imagine thinking that you can just pick a skill and “make it work” in an arpg “mmo”… this is feeling more and more like Wolcen to me. Was playing the crap out of pd2 s7 and d4 doesnt hold a candle…

I’m pretty sure that legendary skill
stacks. I have +3 on one legendary and +4 on another. I have near infinite CL mana against a single target.

I also have a legendary proc that gives a 66% chance for CL to jump to two additional targets.

I’m not using unstable currents. I went with the freeze ultimate for survivability. It does great tearing down large groups for CL.

what level/world tier are you?

World tier 2, level 52.

Yeah… lemme know how that works out for you in WT3/4.

I doubt I’ll come back here to tell you that, but I’ll keep adjusting as the game changes.

I think you’re missing my point… most people complaining about things not working or being underpowered are in WT3/4 and you’re here barely into “endgame” like iT wOrKs fOr Me…

It looks like your caps lock may be glitching out.

NM is supposed to be a steep jump up in difficulty. I don’t expect to step from the last act of World 2 into NM without hitting a bit of a wall. Then you adjust and gear up to get through it.

D2 played this way. D3 was even worse, until all the people like in these forums complained about not getting free loot simply for logging in. Then D3 became easy mode.

We’re a few days into early release and the “experts” already figured out there is no path to successfully playing the harder difficulties. Hopefully they don’t listen to all the sensitive souls this time around.

If it’s too hard, there are easier difficulties to play. You are not entitled to the hardest levels simply because you play the game.

I’ll wait to decide whether or not the game is broken until everyone has a few weeks to play at max level.

Agree with you op.

It feels so weird, that i can just absolutly go ham on spamming chain lightning on a single target, but once it spawns anything attackable, my dps drops significantly and i am mana starved again.
As a WoW Elemental Shaman main, its so absolutly mindboggling to me, that bloody CHAIN LIGHTNING is most effective against a single target and when going up against large groups of enemies, it actually just feels worse and is less effective.

Okay, someone liked my post, which brought me back here to see what they liked, so it looks like I do get to tell you how it is working out for me.

I moved on to NM today at level 55. I’m not rushing because, well, there is nowhere to go. Just more grinding for more loot. I was expecting NM to be a complete disaster with all the complaining, but it has been pretty easy for me. Everything is dying quickly for the most part. I have done two nightmare sigil dungeons so far and they were both easy as well. I died twice in one, simply because I let them freeze me in place through poor playing on my part.

I have not researched any builds, just combining affixes with the skills I am using.

My skills bar has the following:
Teleport rank 1
Frost Nova rank 1
Ice Armor rank 1
Deep Freeze Rank 1
Chain lightning rank 7
Arc Lash rank 5

I started NM in level 40 gear, with the exception of the ring I got for beating normal.

I’m using the following Aspects:

Lucky hit chance +14% with barrier
5 second immune bubble every 90 seconds when not healthy
Core/Mastery skill 34% increased crit chance above 100 mana
+18 lifer per second for each close enemy, up to 126
Crackling energy +14% move speed for 4 seconds
Chain lightning 66% chance to cast two additional
23% increased damage with barrier active
5 mana for every chain lightning bounce off of me
40% resource refund if core skill hits 5 or more enemies

Now before all the jaded people want to start picking apart why my build sucks, I’ll just concede it does so you don’t waste your venom.

I was totally expecting to have to go do research on a good build when NM handed me my butt, with the way everyone is complaining, but I am doing just fine.

My build has what I felt was a nice balance of survivability, damage increases to match my skills, and skill tree choices that compliment how I play.

Complaining about how the game is broken before it is even out for a week, because you can’t face roll the hardest content instantly, is just pure insanity.

If you are one of the people frustrated and struggling, I suggest you do the following:

a) don’t go to NM before 50, hell before 70. The game even tells you this.
b)Make sure every skill choice and aspect you are using is the best you have found for YOUR play style and build.
c) don’t complain about how broken the game is just because you didn’t turn a months long grind into a 3 day romp.
