Caster Druid mini review

Earth Druid

  • Earth Spike is so bad. Little damage, little spirit.
    
  • Landslide has a tiny AOE. Slow animation, really annoying. Primal buff is ok.
    
  • Bulwark is ok, but boring.
    
  • No mobility whatsoever. You’ll forever be as slow as a level 1.
    
  • Boulder pushes elites far far away. I don’t want that. It’s hard enough to hit with Landslide as is.
    
  • Petrify: Weak ultimate with a long CD. Give it a 30s CD and it would still be far from op.
    

Wind Druid

  • Wind Shear is alright as a basic skill. Much better spirit generation than Earth Spike.
    
  • For Storm Strike you have to get close, but you have to do that anyway for Hurricane. Good at making monsters vulnerable.
    
  • Tornado should be good with the legendary that makes it aim at enemies. Without it Tornado misses all the time. No surprise. It also often gets stuck.
    
  • Cyclone Armor is a bit lackluster. Bulwark is much better.
    
  • Hurricane wants you to get into melee range. There goes the dream of a Druid caster. It’s really a melee skill and you don’t want to be there, especially without mobility.
    
  • Also no mobility.
    
  • Cataclysm has an annoying knockback. Not going well with Hurricane. Also the damage is weak for an ultimate.
    

In general there are few synergies and I don’t think the caster Druid will scale well in lategame.
Same problem as D2: Several classes rolled into one, resulting in too few skills per “class”.
Spirit = Rage, therefore suffering from the same problems. Except Druid doesn’t have good effects to quickly fill rage and from what we know won’t get any.
I did not enjoy playing this class. Sorc, Rogue and Barb are so much better (and Necro too from what I’ve heard). Easily the worst and least fun class.

Short: Druid is hot garbage.

Yea, Druid is missing a movement ability. It would be nice if they had one

(Also Necro could use one like a teleport to corpse kind of thing)

Druid is slow at killing and slow at moving around. Won’t be a good endgame class due to mechanics.

So far i’m finding both wind druid and earth druid underwhelming but i find wind druid slightly better though i’m going to keep trying with earth druid. maybe it’ll change after a few legendaries.

Currently finding success in a companion/bear build, mostly due to legendary drops.

One gives an extra companion and 250% damage, the other causes pulverize to be a giant wave.

Dumped all points into Pulv + Companion skills, with storm strike basic for vulnerability.

Mostly just using Pulverize to clear everything out with the 10 sec overpower while wolves/vines kill everything around.

Yeah but play the same build without the legendary afix and it’s total garbage.

Trample is a movement ability that also gives you Unstoppable. Worked wonders for me so far.

they changed the damage types aswell which killed any build from d2 and d3.

Druids definitely need a rework and buff

I tried wind caster, was absolutely putrid early as I didn’t find a weapon until before the end of the big main quest dungeon east of kyovashad. But once I did, the boss was easy and tornadoes + wind basic made it easy on veteran. Will play more in a few hours and see how later lvls and skills feel.

The further the boulder rolls, the more damage what is being shoved takes. You should want that. Moreover, if you are playing as a ranged class, that gets things out of your face.

But not every spell has to or should support a particular playstyle. I use Boulder on my melee druid and like it as is.

Buffs perhaps, but not a rework.

This means they should hit like a truck even if it’s slow… I see that they don’t, but the slow but well timed hit playstyle can be overlooked for the intuitive faster buttons = faster kills.

to be fair though a a super wolf lunge/pounce that like stalls both characters or requires you be behind the monster would be super cool.

Necro could be able to tele to a corpse if in blood mist form or something. I can see people still speedrunning as necro if they just kill from a distance… making it interesting

Also huge fan of combo systems maybe a combo nature/magic skill?? on some kind of character eventually?? maybe? maybe? :slight_smile:
