Here is the short version: I am in act 3 trying to slay Tyrant King Brol and I can’t do it. I’m playing a Twisting Blades rogue and I keep getting overwhelmed by the adds. Plus, there appears to be major bug.
Also, this is happening on Tier 1 (at this point, I’m just trying to get out of Act 3, not my favorite and not my favorite zone).
Now, I’m level 46 with all legendary gear. This is my first character and I’m one of those filthy casuals that sticks my nose in every corner, does all of the side quests, and opens every container I find. I enjoy the game, but I’m not a particularly good player. Telling me to “git gud” probably isn’t going to help.
My talent spec is mostly melee and is an absolute blast in open country. But I have had problems with final dungeon bosses, especially when there are lots of adds. This encounter is tailor-made to defeat my spec.
So, I changed it. I’m currently running Puncture, Twisting Blades, Dash, Shadow Step, Poison Imbuement, and Poison Trap (I don’t use an Ultimate because the rogue ultimates are … underwhelming). This is mostly working. I keep kiting the boss and the adds, dropping Poison Traps, then dive in with Twisting Blades followed by Dash and watch the adds die. I time these attacks carefully to make sure I keep a Dash available because if I get pinned in then I become dead. Even a filthy casual can figure that out.
This is where the bug rears its ugly head. Frequently, I hit a situation where I cannot move. It looks suspiciously like I am running into an invisible boundary which just happens to be right in the middle of the room. Sometimes I can Dash through it, but at some point I can’t. Then it’s game over.
I think there are three problems here, two of which are with the actual encounter.
- I’m not a very good player. That’s not the encounter’s fault.
- I think there is a scaling issue here with the adds. I’ve got poison traps all over the place, I’m making smart and effective blade runs, and I have every ability I have on cooldown, but the adds are still coming in way faster than I can kill them.
- At some point, I get stuck by this apparent invisible wall thing and I can’t move.
I think I could beat this if I could move correctly, but I have made multiple attempts on this encounter and the best I can do is get Brol down to about 25% health before the wheels come off.
On Tier 1. I should stab myself in the face with own legendary blades …
I have seen this movement issue in other zones, but it is especially bad in the Dry Steppes. I’ve even had it push my character backwards if I stop trying to move.
For now, I’m done with this encounter. I’ve been enjoying the game and the character, but I’m not gonna beat my head against this wall for no reason. Maybe I will try another toon, or take a break from Diablo 4 and do something else. Maybe I will have better luck if I get to this encounter at a much lower level.
