Can't kill tyrant king Brol

Here is the short version: I am in act 3 trying to slay Tyrant King Brol and I can’t do it. I’m playing a Twisting Blades rogue and I keep getting overwhelmed by the adds. Plus, there appears to be major bug.

Also, this is happening on Tier 1 (at this point, I’m just trying to get out of Act 3, not my favorite and not my favorite zone).

Now, I’m level 46 with all legendary gear. This is my first character and I’m one of those filthy casuals that sticks my nose in every corner, does all of the side quests, and opens every container I find. I enjoy the game, but I’m not a particularly good player. Telling me to “git gud” probably isn’t going to help.

My talent spec is mostly melee and is an absolute blast in open country. But I have had problems with final dungeon bosses, especially when there are lots of adds. This encounter is tailor-made to defeat my spec.

So, I changed it. I’m currently running Puncture, Twisting Blades, Dash, Shadow Step, Poison Imbuement, and Poison Trap (I don’t use an Ultimate because the rogue ultimates are … underwhelming). This is mostly working. I keep kiting the boss and the adds, dropping Poison Traps, then dive in with Twisting Blades followed by Dash and watch the adds die. I time these attacks carefully to make sure I keep a Dash available because if I get pinned in then I become dead. Even a filthy casual can figure that out.

This is where the bug rears its ugly head. Frequently, I hit a situation where I cannot move. It looks suspiciously like I am running into an invisible boundary which just happens to be right in the middle of the room. Sometimes I can Dash through it, but at some point I can’t. Then it’s game over.

I think there are three problems here, two of which are with the actual encounter.

  1. I’m not a very good player. That’s not the encounter’s fault.
  2. I think there is a scaling issue here with the adds. I’ve got poison traps all over the place, I’m making smart and effective blade runs, and I have every ability I have on cooldown, but the adds are still coming in way faster than I can kill them.
  3. At some point, I get stuck by this apparent invisible wall thing and I can’t move.

I think I could beat this if I could move correctly, but I have made multiple attempts on this encounter and the best I can do is get Brol down to about 25% health before the wheels come off.

On Tier 1. I should stab myself in the face with own legendary blades …

I have seen this movement issue in other zones, but it is especially bad in the Dry Steppes. I’ve even had it push my character backwards if I stop trying to move.

For now, I’m done with this encounter. I’ve been enjoying the game and the character, but I’m not gonna beat my head against this wall for no reason. Maybe I will try another toon, or take a break from Diablo 4 and do something else. Maybe I will have better luck if I get to this encounter at a much lower level.

When I did it he would 2 shot me if he got close. I kited him through poison traps for like 20 minutes to kill him.

Changing your build slightly might help. I know you said the Ultimates are underwhelming, and I agree to an extent. However, if you take the Death Trap Ultimate, and take the 1st node (Enemies are pulled in) and chain Death Trap with Poison Trap, it will help. That’s how I destroy adds.

Let the adds get a little close together, press Death Trap, then Poison Trap immediately after. Death Trap pulls them in, Poison Trap knocks them down, then Twisting Blade a couple and watch them drop. Of course, try to do this away from Brol if you can so he doesn’t kill you while you clear the adds. If that’s not killing them, you may want to look at your gear and make sure it’s up to snuff.

Have done him as a Roque but with a party. I mostly run shadow imbuement and rapid fire. Using the Valkyrie ultimate (i think that’s the wrong name bit don’t know right now). Maybe try caltrops to slow everything down. Shadow DMG ist the most viable due to multiplier. Try inner sight to mark him and get unlimited energy for 4 sec as specialisation. I am also casual and do a lot of side quests. Still under lvl 50 so everything is scaled. Shadow DMG however makes things easier.

He’s exceptionally tough, the only one to give me trouble in the let’s call it second half of the game before the amusingly called “end-game”. What really got me was getting knocked down by the “adds”. I don’t know if you need fundamental changes. At the intentional risk of sounding like an ahole imbibe an elixir that boosts your damage to humans before the fight, repair and upgrade your equipment, insert gems in all slots. If you don’t have it find the aspect that gives you a shield every 30 seconds if an elite damages you I believe it is and apply it to one of your items.

Can’t kill him either, 7/19/23. The new patch the other day has made all off my boss fights take at least half an hour and I die a more times than I can count before I scrape a win. New equipment drops are garbage so I can’t even level up my gear. I’ve tried new skills, completely changing my build, etc… nothing is working.

Is this just yet another attempt to force players to play together? As a solo player, I find that incredibly obnoxious if so.
