Cannot masterwork anything

After the new season started I’ve started playing an old character, lvl 100, eternal realm. I’ve completed the new quest line about masterworking up to the point where it now says “Masterwork a piece of gear at the blacksmith”. However when I try to do it, every pice of gear is always greyed out and can’t be selected.

  • I’ve run through “the pit” multiple times and unlocked up to tier 10.
  • I’ve collected a few tempering recipes from nightmare dungeons and successfully tempered a couple items.

However I can’t seem to masterwork. My bag is completely full of items which are Ancestral Legendary and also say “Tempers 5/5” (so fully tempered, no?) Yet I can’t select any of them to be masterworked. What am I missing? TY

The ancestral legendary that you want to masterwork needs to have 2 tempers on it.

The best order to craft gear is to temper first.

Once you get the tempers you hopefully want, you then go to enchanting to get whatever affix you’re looking for (you can easily sink a ton of gold into this and might not be worth it unless you have a great item with greater affixes and the right tempers).

Then I would start masterworking the item. Just my opinion.

How do you get two tempers on??

You go to the blacksmith, click tempering, select the item and the available recipes will pop up. You can only have one temper from each group of recipes.

For example my helm can temper Defensive and Utility affixes. So I need to do a temper from each one in order to get 2 tempers, now the helm can be masterworked.

If thats true its crazy, im already blown away by the limits on tempering, and now you say you need at least 1 reroll left to masterwork it ? WTH ?

Oh sorry that was written poorly. You just need to have 2 tempers on an item to start masterworking it. So the order most people do is:

Temper first until you get what you want
Enchant if needed
Masterwork
