Cannot install Diablo 4 - gives BLZBNTAGT00001389 error message

Was going to look at my old season character and redistribute loot, but the game refused to start. Said I had corrupt game data even though the game ran just fine yesterday, and that I should run scan and repair.

So I did. It refused to run, said “something broke” - which is just so helpful! - and gave the above BLZBNTAGT00001389 error code. I did the usual of restarting the battlenet desktop app, killing Agent.exe etc, no change.

Clicking on to the linked bnet page presents a short list of canned responses, one of which is “run scan and repair” (facepalm). None of the fixes are relevant and/or work. Nothing has changed in my PC, the desktop app isn’t blocked by my firewall, etc.

So I uninstalled the game and was going to re-install again, all 140GB which is nice. However the re-install stops immediately with the same error code. So… Wonderful.

Any ideas, anyone?

EDIT:
This actually wasn’t the game’s fault or the bnet desktop app either… It was one of my SSDs (where I have the game installed) dropping out without giving any indication it was misbehaving.

Curious. 2nd time that’s happened in the maybe six months or so since I bought the drive, and only this drive. Not the original one where my OS is installed…

Anyway, problem “solved”, case closed, etc.
