Yes I find this incredibly annoying as well every time I try to check news or patch notes.

It is all about liability.

You can thank the parents that never bothered to monitor what their 12-year-old did on the internet and the scumbag lawyer that helped them sue to make egregious amounts of cash from an evil large corporation.

People like the OP are always SO Quick to point fingers at what they think are the cause when it’s honestly not Direct reason to begin with.

It’s not a big deal. Just grab the year and spin it. The actual date doesn’t matter.

Wait, are you telling me 99% of Diablo players weren’t actually born on January 1?!?!?

LOL, thinking of “Better Call Saul” kind of lawyer popup everywhere.

You can ask for sure, but realistically they’re at the mercy of regulations they want to deliver their products in.

You could take up the politics in those regulations, but it’s a pretty big uphill battle to take all of those on… and there’s community momentum building behind that to make that outlook tougher.

It is doubtful the OP has a lobby with billions of dollars to pay off politicians to make any changes.

Of course, the easiest most effective way would be for the court systems to tell the parents to get off the couch and actually watch their kids then seek to get the lawyer disbarred for frivolous lawsuits.

That will never happen as the people who want the system to work this way do have a lobby with billions of dollars to pay off politicians.

Nefarious sides of politics do exist and to varying degrees in the different jurisdictions. Im sure these concerns are a part of the challenge in some places. There’s more here as well, but I’ll leave that for other places to wrestle with.

Now putting in your birthdate on a website doesn’t seem so bad does it?

It’s a very soft control, effectively leaving it to the user to decide what they want to tell to a computer.

This is understood on both sides of those engaging with regulators.

Just scroll year all the way down and lets make diablo 4 forum people data the oldest ever.

It’s like Wheel of Fortune. :hamster:

oh crap, that stupid cookie remembered i am using year 2025 and blocked me forever.

We probably just need IP connections that have verified age and then it’d be solved. Could also be done manually once per device, if privacy concerns exist. (It’s how I would solve this, not something that is already implemented afaik.)

And when you just pick a date it’s not stopping anybody. It’s kind of amazing that everyone viewing the stuff was born on 1/1.

you guys are really bad on parenting in this ERA. I bet you guys don’t even know about the gamer’s law this is why most of you boast your kids under the the M-18+ that he or she can beat a boss or do it “easy”. Well gonna give it straight to you all the PEGI system is always used because in Europe they NEVER check and don’t give a **** on what their kids do but if you are in the USA you better watch out if you get asked in a simple conversation in parties.

Yes, age restrictions on video games can result in fines and penalties. Some laws prohibit selling Mature, Adults-Only, or Ratings Pending games to individuals under 17, and retailers who violate these laws can face fines or community service. For instance, a retailer could be fined $1,000 for a first offense or $5,000 for subsequent offenses

yeah I think games need to go back to M-18 to AO like back then when I had ti show my ID card to purchase Diablo 1.

i semi agree. I mean, times change.

In the end tho, these rules are there to protect children, which clearly is important. But as i said, i semi agree. Stuff that i couldnt have watched back in my youth is pretty easily accessible and tolerated, even in open media. But then again, there was also no reason for me to have a smartphone at the age of 6 lol.

anyway, creating a thread about this is absolutely ridiculous.
