I don’t wanna sound like a noob but I just had one drop and I tried it out in the training room and it seems to give me some good damage over my normal pants but I’m not sure how it really works.
Sometimes I can keep casting chain lightening for a good while and then sometimes my mana will plummet to 0. Do I just cast chain lightening a little here and there or is it meant to be spammed?
If you don’t mind please tell me what I need to know
You have to juggle resources. The chains drain mana as they return. They do a nice damage when the main affix triggers. This is most important thing on axial [the main affix]. If your mana is draining to 0 over and over you are doing it wrong.
I have like 60+ lucky hit when I have my barrier and have a lucky hit to gain 50-60 primary resource as well as a 3 recharging and I use the glyph that gives you mana regen after spending 50 mana. When I play chain lightening without axial I never run out of resource unless I cast cl at nothing. I just don’t know how many times I should be casting cl with axial conduit.
Sometimes it helps to read what a item does…
As said already
- read the tooltip to understand what is happening
- You have to manage your mana
you can make a build that allows you to spam CL with Axial but you have to build specifically for it.
This build i am working on for S7 can spam CL endlessly

Axial Conduit is exceedingly difficult to get it to work and I dont think its worth it unless ur entire build revolves around it and even then its going to make u angry here and there. Juggling resource to low amounts and not goto 0 is tough. You must get 3 crits on axials max resource and generation part and then get max resource on gear to do it.
Its an advanced build and not recommended for new sorcs.
this is not the only way to do it…
I do have GA resource gen on shroud but i do not have triple mw on axial resource I also have regen temper on my amulet and mana gen on my boots. I can spam CL endlessly with no thought about mana management
Like i said you do have to build for it , but there is no “Only way” there are tons of options for mana gen/recovery.
if you just can’t seem to get your mana sorted, you can limit your attack speed so that spamming it doesn’t put out more than your mana gen can handle. this if course means less dmg so not super desirable but if you can’t work out the mana gen and don’t want to bother with managing power it is an option.
Someone new to sorc absolutely can play this setup but if you don’t really understand the class well, you likely want to follow a build guide if you want to be able to play it successfully without having to carefully manage mana.

Sorc was the very first character I played when Diablo 4 was in early access lol
You need ring of starless sky, a boots with GA mana per second and False of Shroud Death preferable with GA on resource generation. Then you can spam the chain lightning with Axial.
Even before you can spam endlessly, you can ‘balance’ Axiel and your mana by finding your ‘sweet spot’ for stacks.
I played it 1-2 seasons ago and i remember when i first got the build online i aimed to hold 3 stacks at a time. If i went below 3, id cast again. By the time i quit, i was holding 6 stacks at a time because my regen was there. Huge damage. Fun build.
A simplier way to do it was to cast CL right before your mana caps. Instead of looking at stacks, youre looking at your mana bar. You wont want to cap mana and lose dps. Eventually, you will proc too many stacks and burn out, but it takes a while to get there.
All of this to say that it’s a pretty UI-heavy build until you get to the point where you have infinite mana. I enjoyed the build BUT i would not play it again using the console UI. I spent two-thirds of my time looking at a tiny box in the corner and not at the beautiful gane i was playing.
check out my ptr build on how I do handle mana with axial conduit.
It works perfectly and I never go out of mana even when I have 15-20 chain lighting out because I keep the button always down. Currently at PIT 96

Other than the lucky hit to restore resource how else are you getting your mana back to be able to spam chain lightening? Surely that one affix isn’t enough. I have recharging and a 50-60 percent lucky hit chance to restore mana and even that’s not entirely enough to spam cast cl.
