Can we please get confirmation on leaderboards during Vessel of hatred?

A lot of my gameplay has been around the assumption (mother of all…) that leaderboards are coming in Season 8, not the gauntlet version which was challenge rifts in D3 but a greater rift version.

I don’t mind if the answer is no, but then I can just enjoy each season for a couple of weeks and not care about what goes to eternal realm to prepare for non seasonal leaderboard content.

Hopefully we can get this answered in the campfire chat, some of the hand picked questions that come up are really cringe in the bigger scheme of things.

there hasnt been further information on it as far as i know, but id say its pretty fair to assume that we will see leaderboards again in the future. Now… if its going to be in s8, or s12 noone knows, and i kinda doubt we will get detailed information in the upcoming campfirechat about it, other than some generic “we know people want it, and are working on it”.

As of know, there are unofficial leaderboard one can use to compete with others.

Thanks for the response,

The main thing is the content that will come with leaderboards, if they use the Pits it will most likely be updated so it’s not only 2 levels, come with more strategy and rng.

I won’t even be a top 500 player but it’s nice to know you can try push to the best you can and have a snapshot online in the armory that will outlast your char for many years after you hit the delete button to make space for new chars.

EG, In D3 you can still see how you did in Season 10 and view the gear you had at the time.

For sure, I know content creators that like some endgame carrot to push for like Wudijo and Raxx have shown frustration on this issue.

I still think the game should 90% cater for a more casual style with any new systems they add but if they want the seasons to last longer for most players they need to give people more reasons to use that awesome gear they acquire.

Elon Musk needs to show the whole world how he’s #1 in Diablo 4 again. But this time officially through the leader boards!

He will be removed for using the bugged anti vemon potion for getting his under 3m run ;), I see helltides didn’t count that ±2m run the guy playing for him had.

I ask this out of pure curiosity and no malice what-so-ever.

What is the point of a Leaderboard in a broadly single player experience like this? I’ve never understood them in any game, let alone a game like this where we are all using different builds and classes and doing different things… what does a leaderboard add that isn’t already there? Is it solely for just… saying ‘I’m better than other people?’

I don’t think it would really harm the game, but it could breed a more “MUST BE THE META” environment (more than the game already has) and I think any game is at it’s worst when everyone is using the same build simply because it’s more powerful and not because it’s more fun.

I am sure I’m missing something and that’s totally valid, like I said… never understood leaderboards at all.

Thanks for your post.

The leaderboard will come with endgame content that is around the same level as greater rifts in D3. That has more strategy and rng to make it more interesting. It also brings with it an online armory that you can view yours and other chars online.

You can see what other players are doing to get stronger and compare gear. You get a snapshot of your best attempt with a level and timestamp you achieved and the gear you had on at the time. This is saved for aslong as D4 remains online, long after you delete your chars. You don’t feel as bad when having to delete those chars you put time into.

The other concern is class balance but that does not matter because its separated by class and later on they can add specific specs like in D3. Infact leaderboard content can make class imbalance more forgiving because if you have nothing to achieve a lot of people just going to play the strongest class and be done with it.

I’ll be 100%… I kind of forgot D3 even had Leaderboards, and I played that game for a couple thousand hours haha.

I suppose that makes sense though. I would not mind a record of my own runs but I’ve personally never seen the need to see other peoples runs and compare myself against them. But… I guess other folks do love doing that!

Thank you for clarifying.

No problem,

Maybe login to d3 when you get a chance and you see how they broken down per class and per spec. I think it’s 6 per class and then there is an overall ranking for that class.

You can view the players profile and spec at the time of that run.

I will say this, if they shutdown greater rifts with leaderboards they would be able to shutdown d3 servers down the next day. The game has been in maintenance mode for over 2 years but still brings in quite a lot of players in each season.

I guess it would be like with world of warcraft, if they removed damage meters I think a lot of the more hardcore playerbase would quit.

If there is an official leader board, Blizzard would have to remove him, and as seen in Diablo 3, Blizzard does not remove people from it for using bugs.

Honestly, I never cared for leaderboards and completely ignore them when in game. Thats for competitive players, not casuals like me who just play to relax.

I think they’ve been avoiding leaderboards for primary activities because they fear it will damage their casual audience. If casual players see what the top players are using they’ll try to copy it. Only to become frustrated once they discover the amount of hard grind, real money expenditure, or cheating tools needed to reach it.

I suspect we’ll see leaderboards for things like pit when the casual population drops off permanently and the primary players remaining are dedicated ARPG players.
