Tempering needs a serious revamp. There are only a few relatively “okay” choices to take. Whole offensive tree is basically trash (excluding a few niches), 90% of weapon tree is also trash.
Could we at least go back to temperings that modify aoe of our skills? Something other than additive damage, please.
when was tempering fun?
before its most recent incarnation, tempering required restoration scrolls that you kept in your stash and you were limited on temper rolls. also those items you mentioned weren’t guaranteed rolls. you could get one of three affixes that were part of the manual. with the old way you could brick an item with tempering.
the design choice to remove things like effect size from the temper manuals was also when they revamped the skill tree. so the old temper options were built into the bonus nodes and variants. passive nodes were gutted completely. the way it was, there were more temper manuals to find which did keep you in temper jail for a while.
even if they did a hybrid of old and new, i wouldn’t welcome more temper manual farming. but that would be required to have more temper options.
They could have kept the fun stuff like effect size and double stuffed oreos.

Double damage and similar choices were awful game design.
It locks build to 1 damage skill +5 support.
For none DOT skills you can choose between Attack speed and Critical strike chance. DoT on the other hand have no alternative aside of attack speed.
If Blizzard revamp tempering it should be more generic and not skill specific.
I meant more like chance to cast twice on secondary abilities like dust devils, earthquakes, etc. Now especially with them baked into the skill trees they would no longer be completely over the top.
