Can we get a combat log so we can see what killed us or what type of damage we were taking?

Can we get a combat log so we can see what killed us or what type of damage we were taking?

This would greatly help us make changes to our build and improve our character. Doesn’t need to include info on others.

Still relevent to this day. We can’t provide constructive feedback without knowing what is killing us nor for how much damage we are being hit, and therefore whether or not we could be survivng that damage with itemization. As it stands all I know is I’m randomly getting one shot on repeat while running some dungeons and blasting through others without even a single close call. We need a combat log.

We definitely need a combat log.
When you get one shot you have no way to know the reason and improve your gameplay.

A monster explodes and a burst of fire is shown on screen and your character dies.

“Dang, what the hell killed me? If only I had a combat log.”

*checks combat logs:

Fiery Goatman Chieftan’s death explosion hits you for 4787 point(1321 overkill) you die.

“oh, now I understand why I died. I couldn’t figure this out before. Thank goodness for the combat log!”

And again a constructive contribution is ruined by a troll comment like the one from Luftballons…

It always amazes me how people are just not able to use their own brains and just basically badmouth other ideas or underpin them with sarcastic comments.
I personally have wished for a reasonable combatlog or at least a small overview of the last 10 to 20 incoming damage causes since Diablo 3 times.

Of course, if you are on the run with only one mob as you described, you can see that relatively quickly, I admit. But please don’t forget that there are a lot of players out there who want to keep playing the game for years. so at some point you will find yourself in the mid and endgame area. where huge groups of opponents are not uncommon. When elites with enchantments and bosses are added and your own spells and skills fill the screen, you just don’t get it anymore, what kills you.

It’s especially frustrating for players who play in hardcore mode. When they get into that situation and still don’t know what killed them, it’s mega frustrating.
In my opinion, it really should not be so difficult to simply implement a small death overview in the game where you can see the last incoming damage including damage type and from where.

I also noticed that the game will tell you that you have encountered an elite, but it doesn’t tell you that you killed it.

Quite often you seem to instadie in some situations without any apparent reason as to why.

In your example “1321 overkill” is quite important info, because you can relate that to your stats. Perhaps you could have prevented it by more higher life, or perhaps you need to work on resistance against fire… or perhaps you simply couldn’t avoid it with stats, which indicates a change is required to how you play.

Sure, in 90% of the cases it doesn’t add anything, but a combat log would add the possiblity to check for the 10 remaining percent.

Three months and no response from Blue. Back 20+ years ago you would get answers, last 6 it’s like no one works there any more.

You cant really believe they should answer you, right? there are 1,000 posts a day, why do you think yours is special or deserves attention? The devs aren’t the problems with the game, it’s people like you.

Why should a big company look at a their own forums where their own game is discussed?

Well… perhaps because it’s their own forums, and their own game is discussed!
It should be in their interest to know what people think

I wish there were a combat log. I want to build a DPS meter for personal use using OCR and video records of gameplay. Combat log would definitely trivialize this task.

Well, you see the name and enchantments of Elites as red text when you egae them, so it’s a pretty good information, albeit not enough I guess.

This would be nice. Usually when I die I’m in a massive horde of enemies and visual effects, making it difficult to determine what happened. Would be nice to identify what killed me.

It’s always the skeleton bowman.

I kill myself a lot apparently

The one that’s offscreen? Wouldn’t be surprised.

Agreed. Considering all the number-crunching and stat min/maxing, I’m honestly kind of shocked that there isn’t one. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Also, as an aside, a target dummy would be great as well…

Combat log means you can see how broken the game is, so no you can’t have one.

Well dipstick this wasn’t my post to start with, just noted the lack of support from Blue. Doubt a person like you would know anything about the industry and how they used to pay people to solely read the content and respond to the most common issues. The Dev’s are also the ones that do NOT read the forums, would never expect them to as that is not what they are getting paid to do.

This would also be useful for players in the community who cannot read the numbers that do pop up. My husband is unable to read the numbers that appear, overlap, and disappear quickly. A combat log would help him to go through and see how he is doing and receiving damage. It would also help, as others have said, with adjusting stats/builds accordingly… Especially those who are newer to the game or play casually.
