It’s really confusing.
I’m building a burning build and I have items that do:
- Fire Damage
- Fire Damage Over Time
- Burning Damage
- Damage Over Time
All those “should” add to all fire damage, including burning. But I’m just confused as if they actually do or not.
Hi i can help you.
Fire Damage = Any form of fire damage
Fire DoT = Only damage over time fire skills. Like firewall and similar effects that say “over this many seconds”
Burning Damage = All damage over time effects that are created with fire. This stat is typically seen with paragon to differentiate the stat from gear but does the same thing as Fire Dot damage increases.
DoT = all damage over time skills and aspects. Doesn’t matter the element type.
Now why would you want one thing over the other? I’ll tell you. Questions you should ask yourself based on your build.
Are you using Static Fire damaging skills such as Meteor or Fireball (without burn upgrade) or Hydra (without dot) as your main source of damage? If Yes you want Fire damage to enhance these skills damage.
If no and you are using Damage over time based skills or effects, you should focus on Fire damage over time or increased burning damage as they are basically the same thing.
Only various gears can roll with certain stats. So you won’t be able to roll certain affix’s. Theres a list on wiki what is able to roll what on each piece of gear but i aint writing all that down.
For example. You got Fire Dot damage on gloves and DoT damage on rings. Which should you pick? Fire Dot on gloves rolls with higher % then DoT on rings. So its better to use that over the other. Or you use both. Your call. If your a firewall user.
There is tier lists for each piece of gear affix’s that is a good baseline for people who dont know where to start. Some people swear that cdr is bis but me personally i prefer ccd when i farm t100.
