First, I don’t have anything against seasonal players. I understand that they love seasons and that’s perfectly fine.
But I’m expressing a concern that there is in Diablo for some time. Patch 1.2.0 looks ok for us, non seasonal players: we have access to all the legendaries, bosses from the start. We don’t have to wait like the next season to access it.
We don’t really care about the seasonal powers, battle passes, seasonal rewards, etc which we understand they were made for the seasons.
I hope this trend continues for us, the non seasonal players because in the end we also buy expansions and we don’t want to be treated like second citizens.
Also let’s all understand that people are different: some of us like to emotionally attach to a character, they want to jump in action very fast once a patch drops, they want to play builds in parallel ( sequentially but yeah, you got the point ), etc.
Not really, but I wanted to emphasize that giving us access to all of these from the start of the season is a good behavior that we hope to continue ( unlike past seasons )
How much more love do you need? You realize that Eternal Realm characters once leveled to 100 are always 100, right? That means when these new bosses come out tomorrow, you can immediately go and farm the materials to fight Duriel.
I would like to be a non-seasonal player only, but because most of the content is in seasons I’m trying adapt to this concept.
Eternal realm definitely needs some love and special kind of content which distinguishes it from seasons in a positive way, such as exclusive PvP features.
I’m talking from a psychologial standpoint, D4 in general is quite meaningless game and it’s difficult to enjoy playing it beyond campaign. If something feels pointless it’s not fun.
It’s not for me to decide how they make it more meaningful, but that clearly is an issue.
Eternal realms would get better with the passage of time as more and more content gets added to the base game (e.g Uber Duriel etc). Whilst current “heart” items in S1 does not carry through, this does not necessarily mean that future seasons would not. Taking POE as an example - Standard Realms (aka Eternal) is chalkful of content as copious amount of league content is added over time. D4 is still new and the base game at launch was “meh” leading to Eternal being empty. It should improve over time.
PTR Ladder Realm: No trading allowed + Seasonal Journey + Level Economy reset + Smart Loot + Unique Drop Rate increased by 1000% + 2000% Experience Boost + Ladder Rankings;
Eternal Realm: Allow trading similar to Last Epoch’s trading mode + Seasonal Journey (certain items and mechanics will become invalid at the end of each season) + Optional disabling of Smart Loot + Keep synchronized with ladder realm updates and drops + 500% Experience Boost + Complete rollback of duplicated gold and items (requires two or more program tracking mechanisms and extensive manual intervention with record tracing of specific items)!
There should be no interaction between these two modes because the player base for White Knight and a large number of casual players are different. Even when the seasonal journey ends, the ladder realm should not be transferred to the eternal realm!
Even if you make it as simple as the above, it won’t save the situation. Timing is crucial, and players won’t come back once they’ve given up. Who would wait for you to slowly fix things? Intentionally watering down the endgame content, weakening it for fun, while still making players pay for the software to act as testers – these two points alone are a game over.
Moreover, there are issues with equipment design experience, overall lack of fun, weak UI, limited storage space, and the complexity of organizing storage space.
@Vortex7
A lot of things are meant to be the way they are in Diablo 4, but that doesn’t mean there is no room for improvement. I’m amazed how low expectations some players have. [insert Blizzard joke here]
They have mentioned that Seasonal Mechanics will be on a case by case basis for adding them to the Eternal Realm. This current change of being able to target farm bosses wasn’t a Seasonal Mechanic though, it was just a normal mechanic they wanted to add so players would have more options for endgame content.
This particular trend of adding in content and changes for the base game will continue for both realms, so there’s no worries there. You may eventually see certain Seasonal Mechanics make their way too, but I get the feeling they will be altered to be incorporated to both realms.
For example take Season 1 with the Malignant Hearts, I could easily see them adding in a similar mechanic, but it wouldn’t require color specific slots, and they would just act like unique/legendary gems you can only socket in jewelry pieces. I’m not saying this will happen, just giving an example.
Just throwing out some comparisons… In D2 when we played the game through to the end we would save bit of gear for alts that had logical level values. We would then have a main we could progress to 99 with and that took some effort. The fun starts and the replay value from trading gears to others, collecting and developing fun and unique builds that can clear into Hell mode either solo or with 2-8 people. That is what people liked about Diablo…
Diablo 3 players are the ones who liked seasons. But most D2 players stayed playing D2 until D2r came out and now we have like 3 types of players…
D2 purists, D3 purists and D4 purists… That’s the problem. Three totally different games all using the same game name and taking ownership.
But yeah, imo there should be content parity between season and non-season.
Seasons should only be about the fresh start, nothing else.
It can still have some speed-up bonuses to help with lvling, and some unique cosmetic rewards. But all gameplay content should be the same.
Yeah. It will be impossible to make a single game that works for the different types of Diablo players.
Anyone that thinks Eternal Realm is trash is the reason why blizzard created Seasons in the first place. Just so the game isn’t pointless forever. Like how offline D2 is.
Sorry, but to those I will never understand, why in the middle of arcade gameplay, would you want to let your play die just so you could feed in another quarter and start over from scratch. That is how I feel about ‘seasonal’ play. It just makes me want to never return. rn, I’m struggling to not be killed because they nerfed classed again in D4, like D3. I stopped playing altogether about 3 months ago because of it. What gives?
