Can Forgotten Altars spawn in rootholds?

not sure if we can tell for sure yet. Apparently some believe that they can spawn in any instanced map. thatd include rootholds, but also cellars for example.
we do know they can spawn in pits, even tho blizzard only spoke of nmds.

Paragon 201 here and I havent seen an altar spawn anywhere…NMD, Pits, Rootholds, nothing. I dont think they spawn anywhere and I am done trying to get them to spawn. I will get my toon to a certain point and if I still dont see them or get heads to drop, I am done with the season until they patch/fix the drop/spawn rate. Its beyond stupid and is what I call Blizzard Fun Suck mechanics…lets gate progress on stupidly low spawn/drop rates of seasonal themed items…sooooo dumb.

Yes. I found my Altars in rootholds and nightmare dungeons. I did around 10-20 nm dungeons and had all the powers incl. piranhado 
Always have a look on the minmap while you are running a dungeon. You can also have a look at the normal map. Its shown as an altar symbol with a green leaf.

oh! thanks for confirming! so they can spawn in rootholds as well.
I think then its pretty safe to assume they can spawn in ANY instanced content. Thatd include Undercity, and also cellars.
ill do some cellar spams later maybe to see if that could work. If they spawn there too, then cellar could actually be the best way to farm altars as their maps are instantly visible.

Wanted to add to this that I just ran a full inventory of rootholds on torment 4 (so 33 rootholds). And I think I got lucky because I got 2 altars from that. Just wanted to confirm that rootholds do spawn altars.

I thought it was my bad luck. I am not as far along as you. I havent got a head or an altar yet at maybe 130 on T2. Even the single GAs are hard to come by. Thought maybe I had to get all the manuals that use heads first since those manuals keep dropping. Just got to keep at it I guess.
I found altars in the PIT and NMD.
I didn´t find any in the seasonal Dungeons but its supposed to spawn there too.

They spawn more frequently in T4. I didn´t see any in lower tiers. And use the elixir to increase the chance.

Paragon 194, been in T4 for a couple days. I’ve only seen 2 altars and they were both in pits. I did enough pits to level my equipped glyphs to 45 and maybe a few more.
I did a handful of NMDs, rootholds and undercity runs but haven’t encountered any others.
I do spend most of my time just in world grim favor zones though since you need an absurd amount of favors and seasonal currency to finish the season journey.

You haven’t experienced real fun until you’re midway thru a roothold in HC with the 3 sec potion cooldown and hear, “Fresh meat!”
If the damn Butcher can show up in a roothold those altars better as well.

Will the icons for FAs show up if you haven’t revealed that portion of the map yet?
Do they show up in the mini map? I can find any.
it was only a short test, but out of (correct me iggi) 30ish cellars, there were no altars there
yep they do. currently my strategy is to speedrun nmds, i dont bother with objectives etc, just uncovering the map.
nmds give obducite too tho, so yea, sometimes i end up killing huge mob groups.

Alter spawn NMD/Pit/Roothold, best chance is on T4 with 5% chance per run, higher with pots.

Nice of you to test, but doubt the alter would appear as part of a cellar. Unless it was a special event one like the goblin cellar or butcher cellar. (Really rare)

i mean, its worth a test. they do for sure appear in the pit you know. i think its fair to assume they spawn in any instanced dungeon ^^

Only found them in the pit so far myself.
Was just hoping there was a special cellar instance with the alter. And a Butcher.
