Campfire Chat Sorc changes

First of all, thanks for the DEVs for the many general QoL changes introduced in 1.1.1. I do appreciate it.

That being said, regarding sorc changes, I feel like they buffed mostly everything that wasn’t used by sorcs at all. Leaving the class where it is right now. An overall class balance was needed, not a balance among builds that are all underperforming.

I’m personally playing a summoner build this season (lvl 80 atm) and the only change is for my build is the extra hydra uptime from an aspect that was never an issue on the first place.

What really should have been addressed was the 60% nerf to hydra damage from beta to server slam. Increased uptime of the hydra is meaningless if the button itself is still useless to press.

Doesn’t increased uptime = more damage?

In most Blizz games, they have always gradually rolled out balance changes over large sweeping changes ( like they did in previous nerf patch, which is abnormal for Blizz that they acknowledged and said will not happen again ).

They will bring up the power of underused skills, evaluate the power level of the builds and class overall, then do more changes. Just takes time. You either play a “better” class or return to the game at a later date.

nope, contant uptime was never an issue.

I wish they would have changed all the sorc pets to last 2-3x longer. I feel that they suck as they just don’t stay up that long. Ice blades are gone after hitting one mob like 1-2 times as they have to travel to the mobs.

I agree with them trying to level all the specs to try and ensure there is viable variety, but if they didn’t increase sorc dmg to help bring them more in line with other classes, I agree that’s a bummer. Aren’t sorcs pretty tanky though? Haven’t played one, but heard that from a few people. If that’s true, would you prefer to be less tanky with higher damage? Can’t really have both.

absolutely true, guess we can pick another class or leave the game for now. But they did promise some sorc balance changes to help the class and with the planned changes it not happening. It’s just another balance patch among sorc builds that only touches the weakest builds of the weakest class.

It got huge buffs everywhere. Sorc had enough damage even before the patch announcement. All it needed was defensive damage reduction and it got plenty.

Barb on the other hand… just delete this class.

I might actually roll a fire Sorc

It’s a good time to be a Lighting sorc boys, Glad i rolled one start of season. The changes to Vyr are huge, might swap out charged bolts for chain lightning too.

Yep, lot of buff, especially fire buff. I hope they will not forget Ice Blade conjuration, they could be fun to use as offensive spell (currently they do no damage and they are too slow to move and attack, also they got heavy cooldowns).

I just want more build diversity. They spoke about this but then only changes one item to be more diverse, burn damage giving mana to all fire damage giving mana.

They need to change skill specific aspects and legendaries to work with more abilities.

They also need to encourage cross-element/hybrid gameplay options.

Its not going to be fun playing the same 3 builds every season.

The main issue is that they are not doing anything to make Sorc attractive to play.

Why no frozen orb buff?

Why not new ways of applying vulnerable?

Why not base damage increase from intelligence or something easy that would buff every Sorc?

Why not increased resource regen from wisdom for the same reason?

Why not balance the defensive skills so you don’t have to pick them all?

Then they buff other classes too, probably in better ways on top thus leaving Sorc and Barb as unfinished, poopy classes.

I’m having some fun on my Sorc this season but I had more fun on release and play less and less. Because of the game imbalance I don’t actually want to play any class because it’s not about having fun with builds, it’s about which specific builds can clear content at a good pace and the answer is very few.

It’s more like playing a different game than a different class. Classes with fortify and overpower just have extra mechanics other classes don’t. There’s nothing comparable, it’s totally brain dead which the lead class designer admitted to being multiple times when he discussed his years old mistakes.

nope sorc damage was massively nerfed when they fixed the control aspect, so basically they lost 200+% dmg

No, because the damage per time is still terrible.

There’s two non-obvious costs to casting Hydra:

  1. The cost of having it on your bar
  2. The time taken to actually cast it over another spell

In a fictious example, let’s say Hydra does 100 damage/sec
Your main spell (let’s call it Fireball) hits for 1000 damage

In 2 casts, you can:
A) Cast Hydra and then Fireball
B) Cast 2x Fireball

If enemies die to one or two Fireball, Hydra becomes pointless. Even doubling Hydra damage still doesn’t work.

and then the CDR nerf…

It’s what I’m referring to in my OP, sorcs needed and overall buff, not just balance buff to never-used builds (which was obviously also needed).

The also nerfed a tactical side to the fire skill.

So much for class flavour.

It may be small and may be not cared my most.

But these details matter and was a stupid over nerf,

Easy solution 2 mans hit all monsters 3-4 mana if hits burning monsters

Other wise it seems pointless.

Just makes one solution fixed and another problem on the other end.

they need to meet in the middle more with balance changes and such.

I want to feel tactically engaged as a sorc, knowing that by burning first then hitting adds to my skill and mana upkeep was rewarding.

I am sad about this change.

Only advantage is i can use it without other fire skills i guess. Still its all or nothing nerfs like this that will make the classes bland.

Yeah is CD still nerfed ???

Hydra can target enemies while you take some cover, that’s precious. Also better to use the Serpentine Aspect to have an extra hydra. And they can cast some spell too, with some configuration. Ice blades could be fun too, with some buff.

I’d rather Hydra pierce, or apply burning at 10x the rate, or a host of other things than a duration increase.

Hell, I’ve said since Day 1 that Hydra needs Ice and Lightning flavors.
