Trying to pre-load Diablo 4 and it seems to be just stuck on “Calculating Size” forever, waited about half an hour now, multiple PC restarts and it’s still getting stuck.
Even changing the install location to a different drive doesn’t do anything.

Same problem, just sits there on “Calculating Size”.
I’ve tried the fixes that Blizzard recommends, I even reinstalled the launcher. Nothing works.
Yep same thing here, tried re-installing Battle.net restarting, waiting etc it’s broken.
Actually every Battlenet game gets stuck on calculating size for me.
The support page suggests making sure that the Beta is uninstalled first if you had it. The other thing I would suggest is that you check your antivirus or firewall software for blocks.
Mine popped up a “Do you want to let this app (Bnet) make changes to your device” after the calculating size thing. I had to approve it before it could continue and install.
Not a firewall issue, tried with firewall disabled.
Now I am on Initializing That is counting up very very slowly.
Is this perhaps releated to server load ?
I had reinstalled Windows. (So it was not possible I have still have the beta installed)
Tried multiple drives NVME and SATA.
I have NO AV or orther shenanigan’s going on nothing worked = Just let it finish.
Glad to hear that it is working for you now!
Same problem here
stuck on calculating size forever.
Same problem for me. Stuck calculating.
EDIT: after waiting a few minutes it’s letting me download
No, Cheetah! That is NOT a solution for stuck your customer for hours not able to use your product because it has a bug! Where is your “Glad” came from?
1hr 19mins and counting…first time I had ever seen an app need more than an hour to …calculating the HDD size.
p.s. No, no firewall, no AV, all other apps are closed, seriously report it to your tech dept, telling them they are failing their job!
Lil bro, MVPs don’t work for blizzard they’re just active and helpful forum members. Lay off the entitled karen speech yeah?
I wonder how many people here actually don’t have ssd.
Other than that,i would try exiting launcher app and start it as administrator, even if you are on admin account.
My issue was resolved by running Battle.net as administrator.
Just to clarify:
MissCheetah! is MVP, but not a Blizzard employee, so we’re not his customers and Diablo IV isn’t his product!
I’ve installed D4 beta (& upgraded it to retail version) onto my HDD, it worked pretty fine during all the 3 beta weekends!
On daily basis, the Windows user account I’m logged to is a standard user, at some rare occasion it asks me for admin password for elevated rights, but not every patch makes such a requirement (games are installed into D drive, and I gave write rights to several of my games’ folders to my standard user account). But I guess that in some rare cases it may be wise to launch a program as admin manually to try bypassing an issue.
This also helped me for the calculating size issue… now it’s doing the same thing for when I try to start the install… hoping I can just wait it out, but we shall see
So, I was not stuck on “calculating size,” but I was stuck with the install button just swirling after I clicked it. I had never previously had the admin prompt appear, so I just now tried ALT + clicking on the button, and that brought the prompt up (and I could click “Allow”). Now it appears to finally be downloading.
They need to make it simpler and easier to install games. I never have this problem on steam. Currently waiting already for 10 mnts calculating the size. $70 flying just like that.
edit: it works after 15 mnts. Geez
anyone figured a workable fix?
I see that “wait it out until it starts downloading” works for the majority… not sure why calculating the free space in your drive takes very long. This could be a bug on the installer.
--------------- Update --------------------------
(This is on windows machine)
This worked for me:
I tried reinstalling battle.net and rebooted my computer. I can now see the install size instantly.
It looks like there are old files in battle.net that messes with diablo4 installation.
