It is a nightmare that move/interact/basic skill share one field and get keyed with button. Sure, you can change the keys and put left mouse button on Force Move and another key for the move/interact/basic skill but then you have a hard time opening doors etc.
Why isn’t it possible to have a field with just “basic skill” and be able to also assign a key to it?! Geeez…
Yeah stuff like this highlights the incompetence of the devs and that there’s no-one on the team who actually plays ARPGs.
I saw a tip somewhere to bind force move to mousewheel for oh crap moments - assuming you don’t want to zoom in even more.
Yea in D3 i bound the force move command to wheel up and down and left the normal move command on the left klick to open chests and so on. This way, you dont accidentally klick on a monster when you try to run for your life.
I was on the edge of a carpal tunnel syndrom and that change kept me playing
In D4 you can do the same after you unchecked the “Zoom on Mousewheel”.
Thanks, actually that’s at least a kind of workaround. I don’t use the zoom function anyway.
However, it is baffling that there simply isn’t an extra key for the basic skill
I think we can now , i am testing there is a button.
I found that if you check the box for seperate move/interact/basic skill it binds basic skill to shift+left click. This works pretty well for range attacks. Idk how it works for melee though.

yeah just test we can do what you want now, uncheck the combined button.
Check move and interact to left click. this also allows for basic on left shift + Lclick.
And you can bind everything as you like.
As a rogue that got a nice A button thats sharing puncture & pick-up im always happy when my favourite item Eyes In The Dark drops in a pool of 23 poison & ice damage/mana burn/xxxtra stronk enemies while the Butcher also nonoms on my feet and i just cant pick it up… but want it know… grrrrrr GRRRRR
There is literally an option to separate them…
Edit: also personally I put a skill on my lmb that I don’t need to cast often, and hopefully doesn’t interact with enemies.
For example before they added the option to separate them I had my rogues imbuement on lmb cuz it was essentially force move as imbuement wouldn’t cast even if you clicked an enemy. To cast it is just tapped shift(force stand still) +LMB.
Every class likely has a similar skill. I think bulwark for Druid worked that way too.
Have only played Druid and Rogue before the change.
I don’t understand anyone who uses lmb for their basic. It’s insane.
do not that move + interact is currently not working as it should and you will move when using hold position with that setup.
My current solution leave mouse clicks default turn off combat/interact/move
Set move to shift, so now letting go makes you hold position and cast. If shift is annoying to hold down to move bind it to a comfy key.
Interact will also need to be bound to a comfy key for me its E and rebinding Emote wheel to 5.
Only way so far i can properly play ranged without moving when i dont want to.
I’m even pondering if it would be a nice innovation for ARPGs to bind basic attacks to right thumbstick (left stick is movement only) and make it a twin-stick shooter ARPG… So you don’t have to stand still while attacking.
Or maybe because the gamepad buttons tend to be on the right, swap the sticks so that right thumb hops between movement and launching other skills using the face buttons, and then left thumb constantly on left stick controlling basic attack + aiming non-basic skills.
yeah i want to be able to cast while moving, i also want to be able to cast and hold position.
Dont really want to play controller…and these control maps suck.
There is an option to split them and assign a key for the new buttons. I tried it I did not like it.
But what I find I like more is using a hold position button, I moved that to my mouse side button from shift.
My basic attack is Hemorrhage but I put that on my right mouse butting because I want the option to move but don’t want to be forced to move with this.
And I put Blood Lance on my left mouse button with the move. So if I accidentally move but an over an enemy it will blood lance, and when I want to blood lance I hold down the side button.
Give it a shot you may have to move your basic skill if it is not a ranged shot…but it feels better for me, Have been using this for about a month now.
You think it’s bad with a keyboard and mouse don’t pick up a controller… LOL.
Agreed…before I uninstalled I played with controller (8bitdo pro2). It changed the game for me at least.
You better be careful with that side button on mouse.
Macro from keyboard or mouse extra buttons can get you banned.
Even though a dev said in 1 chat start of game people on HC should macro key the escape scroll.
But then later said macro’s aren’t allowed
lol I am not worried it is mappable through the game.
